Buts, ifs, could've's and would've's are totally unnecessary here.
Why lay a blame?
With saying "Accidents don't happen", like my good friend Mikey did, it is implied she somehow did it on purpose. Stood there on purpose, didn't hold him close enough on purpose...
Fact is, todlers do weird, unexpected things. I can imagine he just wanted to look over the railing. Don't we all hold our kids to let them watch? When your other one bumps into your legs for a leg hug, and you sort of stumble, are not very stable on your feet, do you have any control?
On the flip side, we all have some control in every matter... Everything we do or don't do is a choice...
The one thing that got me so pissed was the phrase "accidents don't happen".
Next time don't go to the airport or do anything at all where there will be some form of element of risk or where oh so human inattention could contribute to an accident.
Huh?
I never said "accidents don't happen". They do, and you cant lock yourself up in your house to prevent them, because then, somehow, your roof will fall on your head.
It is a very sad tragedy, and my heart goes out to her, her husband, and their other child. They are the ones suffering, not to lay a blame on.
More a point to Mike, not you.
