One political solution that I have heard of is encouraging Japan to go nuclear as a means to compel the Chinese to crack down on North Korea. Has anyone heard anything about that or has a good idea of how that would play out?

I would say not a good idea.

We already have too many countries with nukes, adding to the list
wont help anyone.


The North Koreans wont do anything without Chinese permission anyway,
and they have been making too much money from us to bother with a war.

This is juat a tempest in a teapot, an effective diversion
from discussing things like the economy, or Iran.
