dino_bobba_renno dino_bobba_renno:
I think think it's an issue of the claim of which the natives have but rather the way in which they have chosen to contest that claim. Just because the case is going before the courts it doesn't give you the right to up and plunk down a cigarette stand on the property of someone who currently holds a legal land title. And yes I know you'll probably reply that the same goes for the guy building the house but the natives have yet to prove their claim in court.

Not sure why you think I'd reply that way. All I asked was whether it was legitimate to suggest the shack was selling illegal tobacco. My experience is that Native smoke-shops sell legal, native cigarettes. The illegal ones get sold out of the trunks of cars.

I think it is, considering this isn't a smokeshop, but rather a "shack" on the side of the road, akin to a lemonade stand, on somebody's property. For all we know the stand is grabbing cigs from the back of cars and selling them at the stand.

EITHER WAY, the fact that this stand is on private property without the owner's consent is illegal.

That may be true. I don't know what they're doing. I just think it's interesting that people naturally thought they were selling illegal cigarettes. As for whether they are on someone else's land, that's still the larger issue here.

Which is for the courts to decide, not the individual.

Upon reading this article, I have only one thing to say: it's only a matter of time before someone is killed.

Summer just getting started.

We'll see what happens if people start pushing back against
the thugs.

And yes, someone probably has to die before any real solution
is reached.

Once upon a time we had the Militia Act that allowed citizens to form a militia if local authorities couldn't or wouldn't act in defence of the people.

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
Then what is your position on this sandorski?

Compare the 2 groups and come to the inevitable conclusion: Non-Natives live in a much better Society no matter what criteria you use. Our Society is based on the Rule of Law which includes the suppression of Vigiltiism. Without that we lose.

That also requires the police to provide security services in place of the
citizen. When they fail to do that, we already lost.

The issue now, since the police have given up, is what to provide in its place.

KorbenDeck KorbenDeck:
I don't think that Natives should be given land. The Indian Act needs to be repelled and Canada needs to do one big cash pay out to all the Natives and remove the reserves and status.

that would be one way to deal with the situation. it may be a the only way to deal with the situation, abolish the very thing that is causing the issues, force both groups to fully integrate. I'm not sure how effective it would be though
