After all of our help and the 116 soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in a war that many Canadians don't agree with in the first place, this is the thanks we get from American media. Why should we ever help them again?

I know it was meant to be a joke but this crosses the line.

Rick Mercer to Fox: Bullying is not satire

Renowned comedian and political satirist Rick Mercer has a few words of advice for the Fox News panelists who incited the Canadian government to demand an apology for their mocking of the Canadian military.

“If you're going to do satire, three of the most important rules are you have to tell the truth, you can't be a bully and don't be an asshole,” said Mr. Mercer, who hosts his own show on CBC. “Being a bully is not satire.”

Mr. Mercer learned of the controversial comments, made by Greg Gutfeld, host of the late-night program Red Eye with Gret Gutfeld after fans of his program began inundating his inbox with clips of an episode that aired on March 17.

On that show, broadcast at 3 a.m., Mr. Gutfeld mocked Lt.-Gen Andrew Leslie, chief of land staff for the Canadian Military, for suggesting earlier this month that the military may need to take a year-long break in operations due to personnel and equipment shortages.

“Once their Afghan mission winds down some time in 2011, certain members of the Canadian military are looking to take a much-deserved break. And by certain members I mean all of them,” Mr. Gutfeld said. “Meaning, the Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white Capri pants.”

In his four-minute segment, Mr. Gutfeld asked the other three members of his panel: “Isn't this the perfect time to invade this ridiculous country? They have no army!”

Another panelist Doug Benson, a comedian, replied: “I didn't even know they were in the war. I thought that's where you go when you don't want to fight. Go chill in Canada.”

The segment, which has angered Canadians across the country, prompted the Canadian government to demand an apology from Fox News for “despicable” comments.

If you look around these forums at all the American jokes we got in here, you have many Americans who visit this site always trashing anybody that finds it funny or trashes our sense of humour.

Which goes on for anything a Canadian posts in here that is even remotly anti-American. Even if that thing has a valid point and excuse for being anti-American. Theres always a American getting offended by it. Infact a majority actually.

So I wouldn't call all of us here thin skinned seeing how if this was reversed it would only have been looped. Further more this show had the bad taste or bad timing to show ignorant stereo-types and disrespect towards our military seeing how four canadian soldiers were killed on the same day.

Imagine if you will if Canada started a war and your president backed us in it, Canada just put troops all over the place but America decided to put theres in the most violent part where there soldiers were expected to get killed and take the majority of the action rather than anybody else. You have soldiers dieing because they were there helping a ally, a friend who was attacked and than out of the blue citizens from that country on a TV show blast out insults and ignorant disrespect towards the U.S. Military.

You are saying you would be entirely cool about that? I don't think so.

The quote that you said had nothing in there about you disagreeing with red eye. It had nothing in there about what they said. You're first post in this topic was saying Canadians were stereotypically insecure and that we should chill.

I agree that Qball's comments were also in bad taste just like most people on this site have said that his comments were in bad taste. I am not debating that. I believe Qball was meaning the States have this air of ignorance that they revel in, and this attitude that much of the world resents, Qball said " Then the Yanks wonder why people fly airplanes into their office buildings". you further things by stating that Canadians are "thinskinned", so in reality you are saying "they were joking, and its no big deal". When in reality it is a big deal, Canadians are dying so FOX can make fun of the United States longest and historically staunchest ally. FOX even went so far as to propose the States invade us, where is the respect for your friends? where is the respect for the war dead? its best to remember who your friends are.
