The obvious question is "where do we go from here'?

Given that Canada needs a sub program and fleet, how do we best acomplish this?

Cliffnotes version? Money. Lots.

We have bases on both coasts but one in the north would be a good idea. Then get at least another half a dozen hulls that are arctic capable. They don't need to be boats of the line but it wouldn't hurt and ramping up what we have now so that we can then handle a flotilla of 212's would be a step in the right direction.

As a related sidenote question then.

Is Harper making the wrong choice with tax cuts when we should be slashing the debt as much as possible in order to keep freeing up cash to buy the equpiment we need without resortign to deficit spending?

That's a pay me now or pay me later question. Lowering a consumption tax when the dollar was at $1.10 was ill advised as it had the effect of amplifying the crisis. A lower debt makes our currency more stable and in the long run makes for sound fiscal policy so I strongly endorse it. I would advise lowering (or at least reforming) income tax but I would never endorse deficit spending.

I personally would think so. I think we should be aiming to take 10 billion dollars a year of our current deficit.
