I guess the saddest part is wildfire season officially started last week. :(

The government tests air quality on a 1 - 10 scale, 1 being the best. Fort Mac scored a 38 yesterday. 8O

Fort McMurray wildfire: Several homes damaged in explosions in Dickinsfield, Thickwood

__________

This is far from over. 8O

Dickesfield/Thickwood/Timberlea are the most densely populated areas of Fort Mac. Other areas are limited by geography how big they can be, those areas are not.

In two weeks evacuees can start heading back by specific areas at a time, the ones who lost everything that's another story.

One of the camp lodges I stayed at a few years back burned down last night north of town. Sucks cause it was a staff camp with the better beds, full bathroom, and good food. Got addicted to the ham and cheese omelets for breakfast there.

I think you're referring to The Blacksand Executive Lodge which by all accounts has been lost.

Yup. That was the one. Sounds like more lodges in the area are gonna get nailed too because there's a series of them along that road that heads westward from the top of Supertest Hill.

Trudeau declines international aid for Alberta wildfires: What if it was Fort Mac, QC?
____________

It's getting worse with no end in sight and Trudeau still refuses international help? Does Notley have to bitch slap some common sense into him? As pointed out in the video if this was in Quebec, well...................

Thanos Thanos:
Rain is in the forecast with lower temperatures for the weekend for much of Alberta. Whether it will be enough to help at all with a fire like that is questionable though. Be kind of weird if it turns out to be a permanent fixture of the countryside, like the Springfield tire fire on The Simpsons.

Unfortunately, most of the rain is in central and western Alberta - the area from Hinton to GP is expected to get 50 -100 mm of rain, while Fort Mac might get 20 mm if we're lucky.

Still, I saw on the Weather Network this morning that the fire risk went from extreme in most of the province to moderate or even low, so the rain everywhere else should go a long way to preventing similar situations in NW Alberta.

Yes, some places got a rain/snow mix Thursday/Friday, but it melted by lunch time.

Still, the cooler temps and moisture will seriously slow the fire's spread.
