Want to read Book 5 of Game of Thrones. $20 for digital. Or $6 more for a fat hardcover physical book I can hold in my hand and give or trade when I'm done. Hell if I wait until spring it will be a fat paperback for $8 in Costco.

That's because of the big six publishing companies - they think that even though distribution & manufacturing costs are essentially ZERO with e-books that you should still pay the same price as a hard copy book.
Both Amazon and Smashwords have lots of cheap e-books written by great authors. Best of all, if you buy a book from an author there, they can actually make MORE than they would have if they had gone the traditional publishing route (because both offer up to 70% royalties as opposed to the 15-30% publishing companies give).
