Why is this an issue? If she doesn't want to supply flowers due to her beliefs, then she doesn't have to. Don't we still have the right to make some choices on our own in this country? Geez. The media will turn anything into a witch hunt.
The same-sex couple should stop crying about it, and find a nice florist that doesn't discriminate and will supply flowers for their union. I'm sure there's someone who'll happily take the business and use the negative press of a competitor for an advantage.

Have to agree with Derby on this one. It is no different than no blacks allowed really. Imagine if the dude said I don't serve blacks. Except he's saying I don't serve homosexuals. Dumb ass just lost not only that sale but will probably lose a few more.
If I was the homosexual couple I wouldn't make a big stink about it nor go to the HRC and force him to apologize because a force apology is just stupid and means shit. The negative attention and the flurry of emails this business is going to get should be enought to get the point across with a likely drop in sales.
The only exception I would make to the case say for example a gay couple went to a church and tried to force a very pious church who are against same sex marriages to marry them. That's when in my opinion that's an exception to the situation and no reprisals should be brought against the church ever. Gay rights have to be respected but so does the beliefs of official and practicing religous institutions.
They can just find another church or go down to city hall.
I worked with a born again, biggest fucking sanctamonious, judgmental, unhappy prick I ever met.

Thank goodness the churches I went to (the ones I'm old enough to remember anyway) didn't have this retarded attitude towards gay people. And that was LONG before anyone even heard of gay rights.

I think she told them no because she felt she could hide behind her religion, why else we she have used her religious beliefs as an excuse.

Yes she does, she runs a public business, a bar owner cannot kick someone out because they are gay, a store cannot refuse service to gay people, why should she be any different, because she's a born again christian, because she doesn't like gays it's all irrelevant as far as the law is concerned.

I get the feeling that this will end up in the courts, and we'll be hearing more of this in the next little while. However, I can see a case like this thrown out just as fast as it's brought up.
Any judge would probably have a hard time with this one. And about said 'contract'.....I read it as 'agreement'. A contract in my eyes is a written document signed by both parties. I'm not saying what she did is okay, but if nothing is signed, then it can be easily discarded.

Hmmmm...maybe she should have pulled out two sawed off, pistol gripped, double barreled shotguns loaded with hand loads of ball bearings, rusty screws and rocks then cut the two gay guys in two by firing both barrels into their guts screaming, "No flowers for Homo's, Die bastards!!!!". I mean, if you're going to be prejudiced, you might as well go all out.

-J. A verbal agreement (Ha, took a while, but eventually, I will get there ) is just as binding as a written one, and the dumb ass sent an email saying that because of her religion, she doesn't want any part in it... THAT is discrimination... *edit: translating my translation

Kim Evans of Petals and Promises Wedding Flowers sent an email last month to the couple, saying she didn't know it was a same-sex wedding and would have no part of the ceremony.
"I am choosing to decline your business. As a born-again Christian, I must respect my conscience before God and have no part in this matter," the email said.
According to the New Brunswick Human Rights Act, anyone doing business in the province cannot refuse customers based on race, religion or sexual orientation Game-Set- Match!
