canyadoit canyadoit: http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/groundzeromosque.asp a good page to read on this topic, from new yorkers. Should they have built this there, possibly a riot to compare with Detroit 1967 race riot. " On June 6th, a multi ethnic, multi racial coalition of Americans opposed to islamic intolerance and violence ralied at the site of The World Trade Center in NYC." This was never reported on. Folks just look at the pictures This freeking place was to be 13 stories , then there were the other two to be built. CHECK THE FREEKING LINK OUT Even Snopes said it was reported on. Read the link.

Brenda Brenda: There has been a mosque there for over 40 years, all they want is expand. No one ever said anything about that mosque being there... Brenda, you have no idea what you're talking about. Until 9/11 the site was a Burlington Coat Factory store and on 9/11 the building was so severely damaged that it was closed and no one has bothered repairing it. Why? Because the 70,000 people who used to work at the WTC no longer work there and the store is no longer viable. Also, it seems this story was BS. The muslims have no intent of changing their minds on this.

Gunnair Gunnair: Got a link? A tweet, actually (which is kinda scary considering how major statements can be turned into tweets) from the group that is planning the project. https://twitter.com/Park51

Gunnair Gunnair: Got a link? http://slashingtongue.com/opinion/mosque-and-911/$1: During the 9/11 attacks, many buildings were damaged as the World Trade Center crumbled down. Out of these buildings is a former Burlington Coat Factory. It closed down due to the damages caused from the debris.

Did you realize the Pentagon has a mosque (and no one bitched about that...)? And that not all families of victims are opposed to this? And that, as far as I know, we are not at war with Muslims? That they have the freedom to build their mosques wherever they want, just like you can build your church where ever you want? Did you realize Muslims did die there, and not just Christians?
I agree, it's not a smart move, BUT, they have the right.

They leased it. $1: At the time, the building was leased to the Burlington Coat Factory.[7][28] Stephen Pomerantz owned the building, and his wife Kukiko Mitani, subsequently attempted to sell it for years, at one point asking for $18 million. Until its 2009 purchase, however, the building lay abandoned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordoba_HouseThe other half is still owned by ConEd.

Brenda Brenda: And the building next to it was what exactly? Gee, Brenda, I'm so sorry that you've yet to master the use of Google. So on one side is the 'Dakota Roadhouse' and on the other is the 'Amish Market'. So what's your point? http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

I agree, it's not a smart move, BUT, they have the right. The Pentagon most definitely does NOT have a mosque. There is a prayer room but not a mosque. Stop making shit up, m'kay?

Brenda Brenda: Just a side note, the Burlington Coat Factory did not OWN this building. They leased it. So f*cking what? So because they leased it and didn't own it then that makes it okay to build a mosque there? WTF kind of logic is that?
