On a similar note, and what's been an important issue for me as I have no family doctor. The BC government has pledged that everyone that wants a family doctor in BC will have one by 2015. I hope this is successful.

And this is why people don't want to even open the discussion of changing the healthcare system - because of he immense pressure those insurance companies will put on the govt to go with the US style system. Money talks, and there are a lot of Reformacons eager to listen.

Oh, I'd like a rational discussion about changing the system. Sixth place out of seven sucks and should be an embarassment to all of us, especially in terms of wait times that leave thousands of people in chronic pain. The only criteria that I'd impose on any debate that occurs is that those who want to import that profiteering rich-fuckers-come-first nightmare from the United States into Canada are automatically disqualified from participating. The set-in-stone points that have to be maintained are that, (a) the existing system needs to be made better, and (b) the interests of the rich greedhead fucks in the American insurance industry are of the lowest priority. It's about making the Canadian system better for Canadians, not making those slithering, greedy no-good sons of bitches south of the border any wealthier than they already are.

Well, in fairness, I don't know if Canadian health care really is as bad as the report claims it is.

Given that health care falls under provincial and not federal responsibility in Canada, I'd guess that some of our provinces have better ranked health care than the report shows, while others have less. Some of the other countries (like the UK and Germany I believe) included in the report have health care as a federal, not provincial/state responsibility. So perhaps Alberta's health care would be ranked higher, while a poorer province's might be ranked lower.
