The loaded .22 next to the door is a staple of anyone 30 minutes away from the nearest police station when I was growing up.

But my father certainly never took a shot at some idiot poaching his deer.

A .22 is great but what you do is you 'nick' the tip of the 'home defense' bullet so it tumbles instead of flying straight. That way you may have a .22 with the impact effect of a .38

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Lol, well shit.

Well in the USA it's "shoot to kill". They at least shot him in the leg with a small caliber.

you are not to take the law into your own hands! if you want to shoot something, use a camera, fly out with a camera take pictures of the scumbags and give the pics to the police, when the hell will people learn, we have police for a reason.

Your courts and ours have ruled repeatedly that the police are not there to protect anyone or their property. They maintain order. Period.

So down here most states' laws recognize this point of jurisprudence and don't bother fettering people with silly rules when they have to defend themselves or their property. Because the legal expectation is that you are your own first responder.

But for some reason you and people like you are possessed of the bizarre notion that something magical happens to people who put on a badge and that they become uniquely qualified to protect everyone everywhere and that only they can be the High Priests of The Law.

And that's a fine attitude to have for a people who need to be ruled.

Bart,

Police Officers in Ontario will enforce the sections of the Criminal Code of Canada that pertain to offences against the person or offences against property, just like all the other provincial and federal statutes Officers have sworn to enforce.

But, to repeat. If you think it's cool to shoot and or kill someone over material possessions, I gotta question your judgement.

But why should I just let thieves get away with stealing "things" that I worked hard for and paid for. It's attitudes like yours that criminals absolutely love.

Hold on here.

Are you suggesting holding the shooter to a degree of accountability is wrong?

This ain't Afghanistan, this is Canada. If this retard is going to defend his property with a gun, at the very least have a target to shoot at and not simply a general direction.

Furthermore, I'm amazed all the pro-gun crowd is suffering from yet another knee-jerk, fully erect, Pavlovian response here when the guy was clearly in the wrong by shooting at a fleeing suspect. It is illegal, full stop. All you responsible gun owners should be the ones howling for accountability of the shooter for using his weapon irresponsibly since responsible use of the weapon is the core point of your argument supporting the laxing of the gun laws.

Un-fuckin-believeable.

I guess you mean the substitute of the attorney general.
Police only enforce laws and take people into custody.

Isn't that what I said?

And what's this 'attorney general' bollocks?

Do attorney generals ride in cruisers and go to domestics et al?

He wasn't defending his home...he was defending a fucking quad or its gas. He exited his home then decided to "shoot in the direction" of the would be thieves.
Spare me, please.

Here you are defending the civil rights of a criminal.
Spare me, please.

By and large, the police are reactive, not proactive. When they do catch the bad guys, the courts might give'em a slap on the wrist before they turn 'em out on the streets to carry on in their ways. Until such time as our 'justice system' grows some balls, frontier justice it is! Now. What was the question?

 Noted.

Wait till some self proclaimed shitiot of a sheriff fires blindly into the night and kills some innocent bystander.

Wonder if all the responsible gun owners out there will bay for some accountability or will it be the price of doin' bizzness?
