Nice rant....you asked about why the Republicans are associated by many (not me, but many or you wouldn't have asked the question) with Confederates. You recognized it, not me. I just gave you my opinion of why that perception may exist: allowing too many radical lunatics into what was a mainstream party. But nice troll in turning this into something about me.

You said that you believe the Republican Party has connections with the Confederacy over "Ideology." Except you haven't explained how, except over these "radicals." Now, The Tea Partiers, as much as they might not like large government or whatever else, haven't gone around arguing for racial segregation or slavery, at least not that I'm aware of.

That's the public perception... and that's the answer to your question.

However, I don't believe the democrats had any major movements to expel black members from the party like the Republicans did.

I'd argue that this didn't occur because the Democrat Party specifically had few black members until more recently. Like Bart showed. The Democrats specifically voted against Lincoln, and after Reconstruction, Democrats took over most state legislatures upon their reentry into the union.

It's only until recently, and most likely due to social welfare/economic considerations, is why minorities have moved from voting for Republican to voting for Democrats. Why would the Democrats attempt to purge minorities when they consist of one of their major voting blocs?

Except, at least to me, the public perception is nothing more than a smear. Disagree on the Tea Party movement all you like, comparisons between the Confederacy and the Republican Party existed long before 2008 or the name Obama became a household name.

Well why did Republicans go to so much trouble of removing blacks from their ranks when blacks formed absolute majorities in several Southern states and gave them several black governors and a plethora of members of congress and senators?
