Oh, he might have supported bail-outs, but it probably would have been in a far different form than the one Harper gave out. I think it would have included far more stringent terms and might even have been more of a nationalization than a bail-out.

He might be pro-union, but he is not pro-big business.

Pretty sure the NDP would break the back of Canada's economy. Canada and the USA are always competing for the big business because those bring in massive amounts of money. When Canada's taxes get to high they go south and when the USA's taxes get to high they go north. Almost anything Canada can produce so can the USA, that seems to be a fact that the NDP don't understand.

What bothers me is that the Liberals and NDP are up in arms over the red ink, when they are the ones who demanded the government to go nearly double into deficit for the bail outs and stimulus.

I personally was 50/50 on the bailout on the one hand I believed that the government should not bail out failures. On the other hand again it was a matter of USA vs Canada competing for employers.

As for all the funds given for "stimulus" it shouldn't of needed a global recession for the government to pay for upgrading Canada's infrastructure. That is something that should always receive funding and for the past 20 years all levels of Canada's governments have failed there.

As for better off? Yes I personally believe we are better off now under Tory rule than if we were kept under Liberal rule. The Liberals gutted everything in Canada for over a decade (yes I know we needed to get our budget under control), and there was no evidence that the Liberals were going to stop gutting Canada.

Are the Conservatives the right party to lead Canada? HELL NO!!! but neither are any of the other political parties Canada has. Lesser of evils. The moment there is a party that isn't selling Canadians out to someone I'll vote for them but there is no such party in existence in Canada.

interesting thread.there is one angle that hasn't been discussed....

if Canada had to assu7me the role that the USA has assumed for the last hundred years.....could they have done a better job? think about it....we all tend to think of Canada being morally superior than the USA. but would that have been a good recipe? could Canada have set the bar higher than the USA did?

It's possible.

I'm sure we all have a different view on this.

I think it is most likely that Canada wouldn't have and couldn't have done as good of a job as the USA.

.....so now lets apply this same thought to this thread.....

in the Liberal's percieved moral superiority, would they really have done a better job than the conservatives? could they have done a better job? We all understand what needed to get done don't we? we all understand that the Liberals weren't up to the task? Dion wasn't up to the task, Iggy doesn't seem to much better. What about Heavy Weight NDP champion Bob Rae?

In my opinion, the Liberals are delusional. I count myself lucky that the conservatives managed to pull themselves together in time to keep this country going in the correct direction.

No Canada would not of done as good of a job. Canada as much as it pains me to say it does not have what it takes to be a world power. The going gets tough and Canada runs. The moment Canadian troops started dieing in Afghanistan most Canadians did a complete 180. I remember talking to many people who were saying "Yea its good Canada is there" then after it started getting tough they were saying Canada should pull out.

Canadians as it currently stands are mostly politically correct cowards. We can talk about moral superiority, but its just a bunch of hot air.
