bootlegga bootlegga: Do you honestly think that this is the only issue Harper and the Conservatives will need the Bloc or NDP's help on for the next three or four years (whenever the next election is supposed to fall - assuming Harper doesn't do another end run around his own legislation)?
If you do, then you're naive.
Accepting their help now is tantamount to a coalition because the next time there is a confidence vote (like the budget), the Liberals won't be there to keep them alive. That means if he caves now, he is in all but name forming a coalition, no matter what you guys think. They are not accepting anything. The Bloc will for FOR the motion. But, they also said they won't support the next confidence vote in 2 weeks. So the election is just postponed.

.. all while the Libs are spending money they can't waste on election ads, for an election that might be a long while away. It's checkers and chess all over again.

Got to give it to the bloc, they are in the shit house in Québec right now and not too popular.. so its in their best interest to hold off a bit.. In the mean time Layton is in Kingston trying to defend his support(although he doesn't call it that)for the torys.. er, I mean the EI bill... after a couple of years of saying the libs propped the torys up, he is doing the same thing... heading down to Queens in a bit to heckle him over this.. lol

I thought we just had a hurricane blow through here.
Turns out it was just Harper and his buddies breathing a sigh of relief!

Turns out it was just Harper and his buddies breathing a sigh of relief! Sigh of relief for what ? Worse case scenario another Conservative minority, best case scenario voter backlash resluting in a Conservative Majority ? That would of been great for the liberals huh ? Spin your record monkey, spin it hard.

The funny thing in all of this, the Bloc simply looks good supporting the Tories in avoiding an election, yet the next minute will be on TV bashing them as they usually do.

I think the Bloc and the NDP are doing the right thing for their constituents by supporting this, but dont think for a minute this equals a coalition!!!

At which point Harper will make another deal...paint it however you want, but Harper is abandoning his ideals for power, which is exactly what most of you have criticized the Liberals for doing. Where's your criticism of that?

Ya Boot, all the other party leaders are hypocrits, but not Iggy no way! Face it, they are all flip floppers, they are doing it because at the moment it is the best thing for their parties.

I'm just wondering if my memory is failing me. Didn't the Libs offer $2 Billion to the Bloc ( Quebec ) for their support to form their little coalition. I'm not hearing anything like that here. At least this time the carrot being dangled goes to all Canadians.

Where's your criticism of that? All politicians do it. They have to. Just like we do in life, we have to make choices and do things we'd rather not do. As much as we all like to poke fun at the other parties, many do certain things because it makes sense for the people they represent.

ridenrain ridenrain: The coalition was toxic and almost all Canadians spoke out against it. This isn't a coalition but parties working together, which is what we all wanted. Indeed, which is why the NDP and Bloc went for the Coalition in the first place and didn't jump for another election in the first place. It seems that everybody is seeing it clear as day that nobody except the Liberals want another election. If people are going to work together, then get er done.
