I'm sure numbers can be found that support that position but a video clip is somehow more fitting.

Even stuffy old Rex is against it.

It's never saved a life and all the data is so wrong and out of date that it's useless.

Got a source to cite? I've heard this enough times I believe it, but I've never actually seen hard evidence.

Canadian Firearms Registry
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Canadian gun registry)
Jump to: navigation, search
The Canadian Firearms Registry is a government-run registry of all legally-owned guns in Canada. It was introduced by the Liberal government of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and implemented by successive Justice Ministers Allan Rock and Anne McLellan. It requires every firearm in Canada to be registered or rendered in an unusable state. This was an effort to reduce crime by making every gun traceable. This should not be construed as suggesting that registration of a firearm is free. Any person wishing to obtain a firearm must first acquire a Possession and Acquisition Licence or PAL.[1] The PAL carries a fee of $60 for non-restricted, $80 for restricted, and is renewable every five years. Expiry dates are set on the holder's birthday following the fifth anniversary of the initial issue of the licence.

The current Conservative government has introduced legislation to repeal the requirement to register non-restricted firearms. While this legislation received first reading in the House of Commons during the 39th Parliament, it was not brought to a vote due to the opposition of the other parties in Parliament. Instead, the minority Conservative Government introduced regulatory changes to bring in an amnesty for rifle and shotgun owners facing prosecution for failing to register their firearms. This one-year amnesty was twice extended in both April 2007 and again in May 2008. As of May 2008, the amnesty is in force until May 2009.[2]
