Chagrin Chagrin:
Oh, so you've met the majority of 300 million people? I would hope you're not stupid enough to base your opinions on the US from your experiences in Texas and on the internet and TV.

Say did I forget to mention I worked for Long Beach Yellow cab in California for a 1 1/2.. so yeah I would have to say I met a few.

Chagrin Chagrin:
Oh, but of course! That means we're all bad, ignorant people because of things on the TV and internet. It makes so much sense.

Oh come on, you have such a thin skin. Of course not all American's as dumb as rocks.. but you have to admit, whenever a Tornado or flood hits trailer park the news media always has a knack of finding that one "special" person to represent the rest.

Sounds like this border guard has been watching too muich FOX News lately.

Coming from somebody who probably has not watched a minute of a Fox News broadcast.

I sat down to watch fox for about 5 minutes one day, and then I had to turn it off. And I'm a right leaning person.

The officials at both borders have problems. I have crossed the border numerous times at sweet grass since I lived in the US for 10 years. I remember when I was a student at MSU. I crossed the border going to Montana from Alberta, the customs guy asked me where I lived so I said Bozeman. He had my student paper and immediately started to yell at me that I was not American and that my permanent address was in Canada so I should never say that I lived in Bozeman. I said OK I live in Calgary and am a visitor. He was happy with that and let me move on.

So the next time on the way back to Calgary the Canadian official asked the same question so I said I lived in Calgary. He gave me the same treatment, he asked "so you drive back and forth every day?". "You live in Montana don't give that answer next time".

So the best solution is to give the best answer you can given what boarder you are crossing. They all just seem to be pissed at the world for whatever reason.

I met some great boarder guards as well, it seems like it is a crap shoot as to who the individual at the station is. At the end of the day, customs on both sides need to learn a little common sense, it seems that it is lacking on both sides.

I think maybe constantly watching other people travelling to and fro might get to them if they are not able for some reason to travel much themselves. Kinda like the bitchy waitress who can't afford to eat steak and lobster herself, yet has to serve it to people day in and out.

I'm always curious, are you watching the Sean Hannity type stuff, or the actual news portions?

We decided to walk across Peace Arch Park and go for a beer in Blaine.
Stupid ex left her purse in the car. They wouldn't let her in.
So we walk back and Canada customs stops us, and we explain. They won't let her in.
So I tell the guard to get his supervisor. Explain again. Supervisor asks each of us where we were born.
Stupid fucking ex has to blurt out "Scotland"....
So I have to cross in and walk back to the car. Drive it to the US border station, explain again to them, they let me turn around and join the 3 hour line-up to get into Canada which was the reason we walked in the first place!!!!
Didn't speak to her for a week...... grrrrr!
:D

Ok heres a few things to remember
The American Government wants its people uneducated , and glued to the television .
so they can shove any propaganda or lies down their throat.
(hence FOX News)
next their government is Bought and paid for by large banks an corporations
and so is their media
so when a $14 an hour boarder guard doesn't know fact from propoganda, a person should probably cut him a break.
but its no excuse for the US government on how it runs its country.

Well I have crossed the boarder many times in the last 3 years and can say the only hassle that I ever got at the boarder was my first crossing into Canada to stay for 3 months.

I have been stopped and had criminal checks ran on me several times but never felt that the Canadian boarder crossing guards were rude or out of place and have always been let into the country.

Crossing back into the States has been another matter. I have seen some things out of US boarder guards that made me think I had done something wrong in their eyes for leaving the USA. If I wasn't a US citizen you can bet I wouldn't have gotten into the US.

I think they are worried that everyone that comes to America is coming to hurt Americans including Canadian!

Funny I've crossed our border with the US hundreds of times, as well as entering other countries and dealing with their border guards/troops, and have only had one problem with US or Canadian guards. She, a big fat sweaty women, demanded that my son remove his sunglasses so she could see his face. My son was about 5 years old at the time, so I understand that he might have been on the Top Ten Wanted list for some heinous crimes against humanity! But it was one incident out of hundreds of no hassle crossings.

The most arrogant border guards I've ever dealt with were Frenchman on the France Germany border. They pissed me off so much that after stamping my passport I promptly got into the line heading back into Germany which really amused the German Border troops. I think they almost pee'd their pants seeing me do that! 8)

Thats funny cause I have the exact opposite experience.. the US guards are usually fine.
When I was riding, of course, pull the bike over, go into the office and whip out
my ID.. I expected no less, if I had seen me coming to the crossing when I was
in my twenties, I would want to stop and have a look at me too :D

In and out, 5 mins, no problems, lots of 'have a nice trip' and blah blah.
Canadian border guards are pricks.. 100 % of the time.

Oh and the borders are down in Europe.. most of the time ;)

Never had much of of a problem going both ways between the States and Canada.
The border guards have always been polite, and I've never been searched.

They did confiscate some sausages going to the states once (during the mad-cow scare) because they contained beef and I declared them.

Once when coming back from the White Mountains, the Canadian guards asked me if I was bringing back alcohol. I declared 12 bottles of beer and they let me through. But these were 64 once bottles.
