QBC QBC:
That comment was nothing more then a shot at a couple of drama queens who put up a bunch of hot air about the homeless as they sat in the nice warm domicile, sipping their cafe mocha and had just turned up the thermostat cause it's a wee bit chilly outside. I'm sure the homeless they pretend to give a shit about would prefer the job and the coat over the vailed bullshit posts made on a website by those trying to make themselves feel good. Disgusting.

Really? A couple of drama queens? Here's my comments to your BS.
$1:
try being homeless in that.
Just admit it, you shit the bed with that comment.

Now this is the person I would want to here from. So the comment was made in jest about some other heartless folk.

Well I am deeply sorry for my comments QBC. I have always had respect for you and was hoping it would be...but lately I havent seen that from alot of people.

I take back everything i said towards you. My sincerest apologies.

And I know exactly who you are talking about, the people in the restaurant?...The womens name that died was Tracy, she was a very sweet women, she just didnt want to leave her cart...I understand that...we had contact with her that night and it breaks my heart to think I should have done more.

Of course you did, be a man. All we did was point out that homeless people don't give a shit that it's colder up North. To most people -12 is nothing, I'd kill for -12 right now. I share your sentiment when it comes to regular people, -12 is nothing. However -12 to homeless people probably means severe health problems. I don't see what's so drama queen about pointing out the obvious.

You reached out to her and tried to help. That's more than most people can say. Good for you for what you are doing just don't let it take you over. :)

I live in a Vancouver suburb where homelessness has increased alot over the years and the city isn't doing anything about it. And I'm from a small city in the Okanagan where it amazes me how many more homeless people there seems to be everytime I go there to visit my grandmother. Things are tough all over.

You in Surrey?....if so there isnt enough out there at all. Have been sitting on a steering committee for some time to get more resources in that area and have been told over and over there is no problem. unreal. It is brutal all over but no one sees it...people can look at someone and not even know, donations of good clothing are good for that. Its heartbreaking.

I am just giving back...I was a SKID.

Same reason I donate $ to the local Food Bank. There was a time when I was in my teens where...well...

No, I'm not in Surrey, though I've heard about the problems they have. I'm in Richmond, where there is apparently only 1 men's shelter. There's been some blah blah in the local papers about the situation but I've yet to hear about action. Mind you, there was just a recent municipal election here so now the new council will have to re-examine the whole thing. Seems here that unless it has to do with more development or the Olympic Oval no one really pays attention.

I was watching the CBC newscast from Winnipeg and they don't start talking about the cold being dangerous for the homeless until temps hit about -20C. Then they start opening extra spaces and places. Then, there are quite a few who would sooner stay on the street rather than go into a shelter because they don't feel safe there.

A lot of the people who died of exposure where we were froze when they had a mechanical breakdown or wandered outside during or after a party. Mind you, the temperatures were usually between -30 C and -50C and a lack of proper clothing played a big factor.

I am the posterchild of a well fed, Dutch, middle class raised kid. And even I do that.
Must there be a reason to? I mean, we are not all bad people if we haven't known or lived the tragedies in life.
You don't have to have lived the "bad life" to care or to know.

They don't survive just fine in Winnipeg. I used to live in the North End there. I could tell you some stories.

I think she just means that while most people do give, some choose specific charities based on personal reasons.

Thank you lily! Exactly.
