If Clinton was just 'another obnoxious politician', she would have won. Unfortunately she isn't, and fortunately she didn't.

Bernie would have won over Trump. Shit, any number of mediocre Democrats would have won over Trump.
But it was Hillary.
She was a lazy candidate who took more vacation time during the 18 months of the campaign than I did in that same period. Trump didn't take a day off at all. He campaigned in places where Hillary thought she'd automatically win and she was wrong.
Trump routinely said stupid shit that, amazingly, resonated with his base.
Hillary spoke a lot of inconsequential, sometimes inappropriately angry, and inexplicable stuff that had even people like me wishing she'd do better. I mean I fucking HATE the woman but I never hated her so much that I wanted her to fuck up her own campaign as badly as she did.
The bottom line of it was that Obama built up political capital for the Democrats and Hillary pissed it away.
Trump did not win this election as much as Hillary lost it. It was the Democrats election to lose and lose it they did.
