Ah, ok. But I understand Bart's frustration as well. Just watch any US news for a while, you will see his point. To call what appears on the 6 o'Clock news a 'reporter' is a bit of a stretch. To call what populate Cable News networks 'journalists' is also insulting to actual journalists. They add nothing to the sum of human knowledge, and can easily be replaced with a few cat videos.

Woodward and Bernstein, Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras, Jason Szep and Andrew R.C. Marshal - these are Journalists. It's not about 'free speech' with a journalist, it's about getting to the truth of a story.

And Bart is frustrated with those who do not tell the truth, but instead use 'free speech' to try to make us think they do.

I generally agree but if there was one Canadian media organization that should have shut the comments off permanently it should have been the CBC. At least the Star is privately owned. Ditto for any of the places that use Disqus. And the CTV. And FOX Nation. And CKA where Trev gives us endless leeway to act this way. Not the CBC though. Not when it's tax funded. It shouldn't be allowed to be a one-way-only platform for liberals and left-wingers, not on everyone else's collective dime. I hardly call myself much of a conservative anymore but I still believe that the CBC is basically serving as the anti-Conservative (and anti-conservative too) media apparatus of the Liberal and NDP parties. This is less to do with any of the CBC stories on their website or even most of their on-air people (with notable exceptions being the likes of David Suzuki) and almost entirely to do with their comment section. Once again if it was privately funded I wouldn't care at all but when it's publically funded, and not by donations like PBS, but by coerced mandatory tax dollars it shouldn't be happening.

BTW the CBC comment section is where I cemented my opinion of the last year that most of Central Canada and most liberals are all basically saying fuck-you-Alberta and go-to-hell-Alberta to us in the midst of this economic crisis. On talk radio they say that one caller that gets through is voicing the opinion of at least twenty others that don't call in. I'd apply the same thing to internet comments. Most of the comments of those bothering to participate on CBC are massively anti-Alberta and anti-conservative which gives me more than enough reason to believe that they're voicing the main opinion of most of Central Canada and of most Canadian liberals/leftists. Give me a good reason please as to why those of us on the receiving end of this vitriol are obligated to support a hate platform that aims it's hatred and contempt directly at us 24/7/365. I don't see any conservatives, for all their own flaws and pathologies, saying that liberals should be obligated to give their tax money to FOX or Glenn Beck.

This guy was a journalist. He was the founder and publisher of the newspapers Der Angriff, Berliner Arbeiterzeitung, and he was also the publisher of the Völkischer Beobachter. He was also the producer of the newsreel program Die Deutsche Wochenschau.

This journalist practiced exactly the kind of journalism that US Berkeley is encouraging and promulgating in their classes: He manipulated his readers into political action.

Wait a minute, what tax dollars? If there was that, I forget.

As I recall Sun wanted what CTV and CBC 24 hr news got when they started out - Mandatory Carriage. All that meant was the CRTC would demand the companies delivering media carry Sun as part of their basic package to give them a kick start. I think they also wanted to move up on the dial to a number where people knew they were there.

What Tax dollars? I'll tell you what though PD if you really are worried about waste of tax dollars here's one I actually do support for you. Defund the CBC.
