I like the term concernocrat, as paternalism has positive overtones of caring about someone else, rather than just being overly concerned with how other people are [wrongly] living their lives.

Having lied in this city a long time I'm going to chime in here a bit;

There are several things to know:

First off Rosanna Deerchild is another CBC loose cannon, basically for years she has been pushing her own agenda that Canada is guilty of Genocide ala Nazi Germany during the 1940's. She had "guests" on her call in show who repeatedly push this idea to the point where all she is about is blaming a Canadians of today for actions centuries ago.

Second the article in macleans and i use that term loosely is essentially tourism news, the "journalist" in question basically talked to a handful of people and then came up with the most sensationalist title she could which actually has no basis in fact.

Thirdly that in this city the overwhelming amount of crime is committed by natives far outside their respective population. I have several people i know on the WPD and the issue is not that the Natives are not being oppressed by "whitey" but are the victims of crime committed by their own people. Now one can say that oh my god their poor so they commit crimes, they have no education so they commit crime. they have mo jobs so they commit crimes. Bit at the end of the day everyone is aware of the law and if you choose to break the law you should deal with consequence.

All this article has done i enable the victim ideology of todays natives. In essence becaue someone said a bad word to to me that they have a free pass. Don't worry about getting a job, no problem the government will hand you some free cash. go ahead sell drugs, break into peoples homes, steal, force your own people into prostitution, hey its all because your great grandma was apart of the residential school "holocaust"

I found the story just another case of unresearched sensational journalism.I have lived in Winnipeg my entire life. I was a long distance truck driver for twenty years and have made it all over north america. If Winnipeg is the most racist city in Canada, then someone missed the big picture for fear of offending "A Separate Society".
We have an entire province whose actions are racist against anyone who does not read, speak or write in French and Winnipeg is the most racist? We have the largest Native population in the country. I work with many natives and have for the last forty years. The entire piece is just another reason I pay little attention to politically correct idiots who have are from other parts of the country. I am one of only seven "whites" who work in a large warehouse, where my co workers are a melting pot of immigrates. I live in a seventeen story apartment block with a wide array of immigrants, whites and native people.
My biggest frustration is watching people lose their jobs so that immigrants can be forced into their positions and be abused by corporations. These are usually minimum wage jobs where they abuse the labour laws because the immigrants don't know the laws and are too afraid to say something.

Those are not immigrants but temp foreign workers. Doesn't make it right, but it's not quite the same thing. What does happen when we bring in so many immigrants, is it keeps unemployment up and wages down so everybody is abused by the corps.
