It wouldn't surprise me if the Japanese make one of the world's best whiskys in the world. They are renowned for taking a product from elsewhere and making it world class.

Almost everyone I knew over there loved whisky and buy it all the time when they come to North America, where it is far cheaper than it is in Japan. If you ever go to Japan and want to bring a gift for a friend/host, bring a bottle of Canadian Whisky.

It's been since 1983 since I was in Japan but at that time the notion of a fine gift was a perfectly ripe and perfectly unblemished honeydew melon. And at that time the bottle of Scotch would have been cheaper than the melon!

Fruit was still an acceptable gift in 2001 - but nothing shows you care like a bottle of good Scotch!

I'll give it a try if I can find it. I'm not hiding my breath in Ontario. Our local liquor stores nearest around me don't even carry dark navy rum at Christmas. Is all the "light" and "amber" stuff for fruity cocktails.

The Japanese Whisky might very well be exceptional. I'd like to try it to see. But I can't see it being better than The Glenlivet 18 year.

But I know that Alberta Premium Rye was one of 3 things you'd buy if you wanted to get shitfaced and not be retching again at the smell of in a week. Because no one drank it except to get shitfaced. Alberta Premium Rye, Alberta Premium Vodka or Jack Daniels. They were cheap, and no one liked them, so you didn't have to worry if you wanted a drink again a couple weeks.

Perhaps it's improved? I've always kept Canadian Club around as a day to day Rye.

Ewwwww Canadian Club? Cheap grade rot gut. Actually I've found that Jack Daniels on ice with just a tot of ginger ale or even club soda to cut the bite, really brings out its smoky, woody taste.
The 12 yr old CC wasn't too bad though.

You guys are mixing apples and oranges. Single Malt "Scotch", Canadian Rye and American Bourbon are totally different drinks. They don't compare, really.

No, I don't mix whisky. Well, except the CC. Rye and Ginger with a squeeze of lemon is the best! And that 12 year old small batch CC is really good. Rye, Bourbon or Scotch are always served neat at my home. ;)

Anyone try the Scotch that's made in Nova Scotia? Been trying to find it for some time, but no liquor store I go into has it.
