Zipperfish Zipperfish:
I don't think so in this case. In some instances that may be true, but this one is different. This one is resonating with First Nations across BC. They are fed up with the feds--going back hundreds of years really--and this seems to be acting as an event to unify around. I don't think money is the issue.

Techncially the right of way for an interprovinical pipeline is federally regulated and overseen by a private entity. Same with railroads. However, in practice it's difficult to go ahead without the provincial government (Enbridge, for example, requires dozens of provincial regulatory permits) and teh First Nations (who have no regulatory authority but pack a lot of clout in court).

Railroads, pipelines, and roads all require a physical presence. A presence that crosses provincial and First Nations jurisdictions.

The technology being studied removes that.

Which technology is that?

I'm not at liberty to go into detail, but think "air-trains".

Personally speaking, we've played this game before (believe it or not), I think the company that is making claims is blowing smoke, but it is definitely intriguing, and I can definitely see why it peaks so much interest in the oil field, as it does bypass everybody but the Feds.

After reading most of the conditions they are stuff like, you must follow the rules, you must have a plan pre filed 6 months before you can start, you need to do consultations, you must respect the protected and designated trees, you must use the pipe that you were planning to use.

It's more or less saying you must do all of these things that you are required to do and were doing anyway.

In no way was the 209, a list of faults and stuff that was overlooked.

For the native bands that are protesting, good job. You need to build up a strong enough perception of opposition in order to get the most amount of money out of them.

For the issue of spills, when you throw up a big number like a few thousand spills and offer no greater context what you are mostly looking at is minor spills that never did any damage and likely had more time filling out papers than shoveling gravel or dirt into bags.
