You must know that as you enter the island, there's a tourist information booth on your right. That's your first stop. That's the way you're turning anyways to get to Ste. Petronille. I even think there's a Vineyard that produce their own wine a couple of kilometers from there. True though that May is not peak season and some places may not be open... but you must have gotten a better deal on that apartment.

Yes, there's a vinyard on the short stretch between the bridge intersection and Ste. Petronille. I've "driven" a lot of the Chemin Royale with Streetview.
We got a low season rate at La Goeliche, yes. We would have gone later in the summer, though, if it had been possible. Still, we're hoping that we'll get some nice late-spring weather and the leaves will be out.

You can "travel" any street or highway in clicks of about (I'd estimate) 50 to 300 m intervals, and also do a 360* view at any spot. Amazing stuff.
The church at St. Famille and a related ancestry building may be the best bet for finding family connections.
