I was reading some of the quake 'stories' people were telling....stories is a polite term for some of them. I experience a handful or more of quakes every year and what some people are saying is unadulterated bovine feces. We had a 5.5 right under us the other day, and everything was back to 'normal' in a minute or two after the initial groan and shudder hit us.

It was dreadful. My coffee cup rattled. My satellite tv flickered. I thought my husband was in the can after eating curry again.

Now the question to be posed will be if this was the main event or if it is a foreshock of something bigger?

The 2011 Japan quake was preceeded by relatively large temblors so this is not a mere speculation.

Only twice in my life I've felt an earthquake.

Once I was in my bed and it woke me up... wondered why my wife was shaking so hard the bed rocked and was kinda hoping it was for another reason than an earthquake. :(

The other time I was in the living room and actually saw and heard my bay-window shake.

Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy:
One minute to go.

They just showed pictures of the ocean off Waikiki and it looks fine. Damn with all the highrises the place looks like the business district of San Francisco. A far cry from half a century ago.

Well the critical time passed and there's nothing in Waikiki or Maui......so far.

I'm going to Hawaii for a few weeks next Monday and staying on Waikiki. 8O

Getting a laff over some posts around the Net. One fave: Massive Canadian quake causes no damage, no deaths. Even their earthquakes are polite.

I used to notice a bit of co-relation between how hot the springs at Miette and Banff were, and whether there was a quake in california or Japan.

Japan made them feel cooler, California made them hotter. Not scientific, but there you have it.

Your observations carry more weight with me than most people's science. Thanks for sharing.
