ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
I'm going to Guam in two months....excitement, here I come......... :? I hope it's changed since I was there last.

I don't know how long ago you were there but it's just like going to any small American tourist city now.

Their downtown is a mryiad of Hard Rock Cafes, Planet Hollywoods, TGIF's and hotels that cater to the tourists which is a far cry from when I first went there.

I can remember taking a cab into town (I won't tell you why :D ) from the base and the road being a little bumpy and slipperhy. I asked the cab driver what was causing that and he stopped and showed us all the brown snakes we had been running over. 8O

About the only thing that hasn't changed is the fact that you really don't want go swimming in the ocean if you can avoid it. The seabed still drops off with no warning to a couple of thousand feet after about 15 yards offshore and the currents still play hell with people silly enough to figure they can go out in it. As the matter of fact, last time I was there a young female American Naval Lieutenant dissapeared while swimming in the oggie.

It's not a bad place now if your into the touristy type thing otherwise it's going to the gun range and firing automatic weapons and high powered pistols or if your a sailor doing sailor type things. XD

Unsound Unsound:
Fact is, if you want nice weather in the middle of january, you're pretty much stuck going some place with a crime problem. Warm countries all seem to have the same problems.

Turks and Caicos hasn't yet reached 37 murders (let alone dismembered bodies) this century.

20+ hours on 3 planes to get there, and atleast 50% more expensive... much as I'd love to check it out it ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

I did iot the first time as an all expense paid tour courtesy of HM and the Canadian taxpayer. That was in '86. I was back in 2003 for a business meeting...sort of.....still wasn't impressed.

To be honest I can see why. So I guess you knew about all the theme crap and tourist traps since you were there in 03 but it still begs the question. If you hated it that much why are you going back?

Couldn't you swing a vacation to someplace nice like Singapore or even Hawaii, hell compared to Guam, Rangoon would be a better choice for a holiday :D

Meeting. The Catholics have a Dominican run school there, and there's going to be a regional meeting/symposium of some sort involving a bunch of local catholic schools and universities. I got asked if I wanted to go and thought what the hell. The Catholics are paying for the flight, and lodgings. Funny thing is me and the other guy from here that is going...neither of us are Catholic

You found Singapore a "someplace nice"? I lived there a year. I found it an excessively difficult place to score weed and I was only crabs-free for about 10 days in total.

I wouldn't know about the weed, since my vice was alcohol which they don't bother you for. I Loved getting out of Siongapore and partying in Sembawang Village. Especially at a small restaurant called Bobie's with a cute local waitress named Fong. :D

BTW do they still supply the free beer in quart bottles if you're buying bulk fabric in one of the local department stores? We used to tag along with all the married guys just so we could score free beer when they were buying their wives silk. [B-o]

A cheap drunk.

I never got crabs in Singapore despite having been in some less than reputable domiciles so I guess it's changed since I was there. It was pretty clean back in the 70's or at least alot cleaner than say someplace like Subic Bay.

Everybody comments about how clean Singapore is. Yes, it's clean for an Asian city. par for the course for most canadian cities....excluding parts of Winnipeg and Regina.

If you never got crabs in Singapore, you didn't know Fong as well as you pretend.

The only crabs I had there were steamed ones, and if you had those crawling around in your pubes, you had serious trouble. got those at the Jurong Market.
