CTV News has learned that Toronto Police were investigating the existence of an alleged video involving Mayor Rob Ford, several weeks before the story first appeared in the Toronto Star.

As part of the investigation leading to raids on Thursday, officers obtained telephone wire-tap evidence.

A highly-placed source confirms to CTV News that on those wiretaps, persons of interest discussed that video in detail, and referred to the mayor's alleged presence in the video.

So I guess in Canada it's become okay to defame, libel and slander someone you don't agree with as long as you're in the news business and post a disclaimer.

My guess is if I tried to do the same to the CEO of the Toronto Star, I'd be in court faster than you could say "crack dealing Jamaican gangbanger from the corner of Jane and Finch" which as it happens has become a "reliable" news source for the Toronto Star.

I guess you missed the point of the article: the cops saw the video and were investigating it before the Star broke the story. Ford's being slandered alright, though, just like Lance Armstrong was.

Nowhere in the artical does it say the police have the tape let alone viewed the tape.

With no proof Lance Armstrong was still considered innocent by a majority of people which is the polar opposite of what's happening to Ford. A number of people came out and signed affidavits stating they'd seen Armstrong doping before he was crucified. They didn't have a video that nobody can find as their proof.

And for the record the police didn't "see" the video.

Besides the Police were closing in on the alleged Ford tape on May 27th which makes me wonder why after being so close they didn't find it.

But the fact that TPS learned of the video through wiretap of drug dealers WEEKS BEFORE Gawker and Star broke the story is significant. Shoots holes in the anti-ford conspiracy theory. But I will admit that the video will have to surface for anything to come of this.
