mtbr mtbr:
Word had begun to leak that the Harper Conservatives were ending the $27-million annual taxpayer subsidy to political parties. The $1.95-per-vote subsidy was introduced by the Chrétien government in 2003 as an attempt to clean up political financing by weaning the parties off big corporate and union donations.

Wow. This is a political traditions in Canada that dates back all the way to 2003.

No wonder the opposition is so upset!

its really up to the opposition to back off and realise that this coalition is not a good idea at all.
Really. Maybe trying to run a minority government like it's a majority was the bad idea...
ryan29 ryan29:
it is not democractic and working with the bloc is not a good idea .
Whoever has the confidence of the house rules Canada. Harper has a minority government and therefore does not represent the majority of Canadians. It is very democratic. Working with the Bloc was OK when Harper did it during his first term, I guess.
ryan29 ryan29:
you think the liberals would be more concerned with there leadership race then this kind of nonesense .
Nonesense? It's a pretty big deal, actually.

It really doesn't matter what a few Dippers and Libs think at this point. The optics will be disasterous for thw opposition. If you think the Conservatives hit hard with their commercials last election.

Just wait until they start showing Dion, Jack and that seperatist Gilles in a group hug. The Conservative war room already has enough video and audio from this past week to sink them to new lows.

Bring on the coalition and the subsequent election.

Woohoo. The Conservatives will have their majority by spring!

R=UP

Suicide by coalition.

Looks good on the losers. The only other leader besides Harper one who's gonna come out of this looking good is Duceppe.

Since neither of the other parties has any leadership and have had to use recycled politicians to form this coalition for them, he's gonna be able to portray himself as a true leader who doesn't have to rely on some old political hacks to do his job when times get tough. Which should play well in Quebec.

That and the fact that he'll be running the "coalition of the spineless" shouldn't hurt him either. ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL

I doubt they'll move ahead with a non-confidence vote since the Tories have removed the contentious election subsidies issues. It wouldn't be to their advantage. It would be to their advanatge to keep Harper guessing though.

Of course, we must understand exactly what money is. Money is the store of value created by people's labour. You exchange labour for money. Perhaps we should make every Canadian door-knock or canvass during a campaign. I mean, its not very fair that some parties get a lot of volunteers while others do not. Every Canadian should be forced to perform 2 hours of election duty, assigned to the parties by the government based on the number of votes they received in the last election. You can work more if you want to, but we're not going to let you work more than, say, 40 hours on the campaign, because its not fair that you have the means to influence an election with all your labour while others who cannot give the time do not.

Its anti-democratic to oppose this idea.
