This topic upsets most Americans.Most Americans are for legal immigration.Legal immigration has greatly benefitted America.Some of America's greatest inventors,scientists,actors,writers,athletes,etc. have immigrated to America.The list is endless.I don't have to tell you,the participents of a Canadian website this.Probally no other country has lost so many talented people to the U.S. as Canada.I was living in Canada in the late 80's.I remember when Edmonton won the Cup.I remember when THE GREAT ONE was getting married to an American women.Canadian newspapers were talking about how it was Canada's royal wedding.A few weeks later the story was different.I am surprised no one put a price on her head.Lots of Canadians have moved to the States to further themselves financialy.Some have forgotton their Canadian roots,and some {my favorite musician Neil Young} have not.My point is:people move to the States to better themselves financialy.That is a good thing.They benefit,the States benefit.Most Americans are for this.Some are against it.Some dissaprove of people who look or talk differently.Some are jealous of others success.Studies have shown that legal immigrants tend to do better than native born Americans.They apply themselves,and take full advantage of the oppurtunities that America offers.I remember shopping in Indian owned stores,and Greek and Italian owned restaraunts in Boston.The whole family would work in the store or restaraunt.They would live above the establishment as well.They worked hard,and their kids went to college and moved on to great jobs.{I am sure the same think is happening in Canada.Legal immigrants surpassing the native born through hard work and determination.}These people were proud of were they came from.but they were much more proud to be American.They were always waving the American flag.I do not see that enthusiasm in the illegal Latino community.The only time they proclaim they are American is when immigration officials are kicking the door in.Other than that they love to proclaim that they are Mexican-American.They want to wave the Mexican flag,root for Mexico,speak Spanish,shop in Mexican stores watch Mexican tv,etc.They do not want to better themselves.Someone sneaks into America to clean toilets,20 years later their American kid is cleaning toilets.The people who come here legally own businesses,Americans work for them.It bothers me,the lack of gratitude shown.The other day I was reading a thread on this forum about how thousands of Dutch showed up to wave Canadian flags to celebrate liberation day in the Netherlands.That was 65 years ago.The majority of the people living in the Netherlands were not even alive when this event happened,.Yet there they were celebrating by the thousands.THATS GRATITUDE!I see that gratitude in many immigrants coming to America."THANK GOD I AM HERE" they say.They endured numerous hardships to come here.Comeing to America was like winning the lottery for them.They show their gratitude every day.Other people just sneak into America,and demand to be treated equally to everyone else.They have huge PR machines telling them they have the RIGHT to be here.The border jumped them.Every other immigrant is expected to learn English.Only Hispanic people claim that expecting them to learn English is racist."Press one for spanish" I do not hear that said for any other language in the States.The children of these illegal immigrants do not consider themselves Americans.Just like that incident at the high school in California.The principal did not want the American flag to anger the Mexican American students.If these students considered themselves Americans the American flag would not disturb them.Imagine a school in Canada telling their students to remove articles of clothing contaning the Canadian flag because they did not want to disturb American-Canadian students on the forth of july!Its absurd!Who would stand for such B.S?
