At least this is more entertaining than the shit flying around on some of the US forums in regards to this kind of topic. I dunno what's sadder on those boards, the utterly blinded by faith, "Christian" fundies, or the atheist, elementary school drop-outs that forgot everything else they heard after hearing 'apes',' man' and 'evolved' in the same sentence.

Oh, and to settle something here before it gets out of hand, not every Creationist believes the Earth is only 10,000 yrs old and that God made everything in 144 hours. Those guys are called Young Earth Creationists, or more colloquially, "Christian" fundies. Most of the people I went to church with and those I know now sure don't believe the Earth's history is only 10,000 yrs old.

I know but its the young earthers that are the quickest to correct; in reality Creationists come in many different levels from the young earthers, to the ones where God Created the earth then started simple 'kinds' of life but let it evolve from there. The greatest problem I find is that many are just uninformed or have been spoon fed arguments from 20 years ago. People to this day still try to say evolution is false because there are no transitional fossils, in reality there are hundreds of examples. The one I find the most vivid and interesting is how the whales evolved.

Gunny, I think some of the non-religious have valid points as do you Christians. Two sides to this one mate.

Agreed, two sides to it.

There's two sides and there aren't. When it comes to the theist-atheist question, yes, there are two sides, neither are able to prove their point. To debate the existence of a supreme being, creator, whatever, can be a stimulating exercise, but both positions must enter such a debate admitting the possibility that they're wrong. It's not provable.

But if we're talking about organized religion then no, there are not two sides. There is not a human-conceived religion that correctly explains creation. And if you chose to bring human-constructed fairy tales to scientific discussions, you deserve whatever shit you take. There aren't two sides to the age of the earth. There aren't two sides to the process of evolution.

If theists want the atheists to stand down, all they have to say is "You don't know how things are, do you?" Then the atheist will say, "No, I don't". Then we can all agree to disagree and move on. But if the theist wants to bring up the "Yeah, but the bible says" argument, then they deserve whatever dose of reality they don't want to hear.

What a shock you'd roll in looking for round two. Start tossing the shit then and see where it takes us.[/quote]

Ding? Ding?
