Same here. I have a friend who just moved to Prince George. I had to taunt him about the -36c windchill. 8)

I had a little enjoyment a few years back. Person on an exchange I went to greet at the airport arrived in the middle of a warm period of about 0, they went outside the airport and soon required triple layers while the rest of us had light or no jackets at all. When we told them this was warm they didn't believe us, the week after it hit -40.

Bunch of bullshit - Metro Vancouver seemed to be doing just fine. It was out in the valley where they had problems - and more snow than shown in the pic of Vancouver City Hall. But we have a forecast for more snow, and that could create havoc. It's true people don't know how to drive very well and don't bother with snow tires since there's so little snow. But our snow turns to ice very quickly, and even just freshly fallen wet snow is more slippery than the dry stuff you get in colder temps. It doesn't take much to pack it down and turn to ice, where as I've driven thru 2 feet of powder with no problem except it was flying over my windshield and make visibility a problem. Also we have hills and curves in the road, something we joke about Albertans not seemingly able to handle. Boot it on the straights, slam on the brakes as soon as the road curves a bit.

The reason there is so little sympathy is probably because the rest of us are jealous that Vancouver doesn't get much of a winter (at least compared to large parts of Canada).

Still, I don't see driving conditions any better in most Canadian cities when it first snows - hell, it took me close to three hours to get home when it first snowed in Edmonton on mid-November.

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/opinion/ ... story.html

All because some dumbasses weren't prepared for winter and were still driving on their all-seasons.

The thing that gets me is how do people 'forget' every year how to drive in the snow? I understand newcomers and immigrants, but most people have lived in the city for years. People don't forget how to ride a motorcycle after six months, yet the second there is a few snowflakes on the road after 5/6 months without it, tons of people get brain farts and can only drive 10 km/h.

Anyways Vancouver, I feel your agony.

Yogi Yogi:
We're getting much the same over here too. Wasn't much better last night either. Started a job in 'Veg' today, so for the first time in years, figured I better plug in the beast before bed time. The dam block heater plug snapped off right in my hand! So there I was, 10:30, Coleman lantern, and laying out in the driveway putting on a new plug, with bare hands!

Did that in Winnipeg one winter with my wifes car. -35 without the windchill and also bare-handed! I feel your pain. 8)

Watching Vancouver get a bit of snow is almost as amusing as watching Atlanta get a bit of snow.

But seriously, it's like that almost anywhere in the more southerly and temperate parts of Canada.
Pretty much every year when this part of ONtario gets its first "major" snowfall, you can see footage or pics of vehicles off the side of the road along Highway 400.
And almost all of them to a vehicle, are SUVs ... Morons

That's why we refer to them as '3 Season' tires.
