raydan raydan: jeff744 jeff744: How do people do that? I have a small bookshelf so full of movies that I need to start boxing some. You do know that eventually, the medium will change and you won't even be able to watch those movies again. When that comes around I will start burning them onto my computer, or just pirate them all since it isn't really stealing if you already own it.

jeff744 jeff744: raydan raydan: DrCaleb DrCaleb: Not true. The disenchantment is that the movies aren't worth $20 to own, but are worth $5 to rent once.
I prefer to own a movie DVD or Blu-Ray, but I only purchase movies I intend on watching more than once. Which is damn few movies. I have exactly 0 movies on disc, bought or copied. I buy books that I know I'll read again after a year or so and I have quite a few of those. How do people do that? I have a small bookshelf so full of movies that I need to start boxing some. I guess it all depends on how much one likes books/movies. For me, books win hands down, and I have titles I've read dozens of times. Most of my movies, unfortunately have only been watched a couple of times, excepting classics like Terminator and Shawshank Redemption. For example, I've had a Blu-Ray player for over a year, but just bought my first Blu-Ray discs before Christmas. I simply don't watch enough to justify spending $20-30 for ONE movie - espcially when all the 'extras' are never watched in my home - and I simply don't see the huge increase in sound/resolution to justify the similar huge increase in price.

I own around 20 Blu Ray and 50+ DVD, most of the DVDs I have I watch when traveling or in the field and the Blu ray I watch at home with the wife. I will download movies that I am unsure of, a good example would be a movie I just finished downloading "Tucker & Dale vs Evil" it has one of my favorite actors in it Alan Tudyk. Since I dont know much about the director or who wrote it I opted to download before I buy it.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: Books are a media that lives strong. Digitizing books... just doesn't feel right. I find it really hard to use digital devices to read books. I'm pretty certain I'll always find comfort in a physical book. On this subject we agree 100%!

That's something else that I have gone digital with, much easier to bring my Kobo into the field than 3 or 4 books (I need that space for my dvds)

I have large bookshelves full of books... what a novel idea (pun intended). I have one filled with books too, and a box hidden somewhere full of old books (I filled the bookshelf again). I have 3 bookselves. One half filled with books that I have read, put back and will read again; the other half I haven't taken to the used book store to trade for other books yet. The other shelf has DVDs etc. that I probabally have digital copies on my entertainment device anyway, but they are the ones worth watching until I know every word by heart. (But I don't download what I don't have on disk.) "You pas Russkie!" "De Noga..." And the third is full of models. The thing I do on the cold winter weekends when I can't race cars. After a while, you run out of places to put them.

Much easier to carry a digital device loaded with reference material in pdf form than to guess as to which references I may need at any given time. Same with books, load up on a few digital titles and go. I have plenty of physical books too but honestly the portability and storage space factors are starting to make their days numbered.
I don't really collect movies, nor really watch them much anymore either.

if there is a movie I really want to see, I see it in the theatre. I'll be going to see Phantom Menace in 3D at the IMAX when it's released. personally, I prefer books to movies, and I try to read the story before I see the movie because it's more involved...movie adaptations usually being a let down...what to keep, what to merge and what to cut? I have 32 gigs of Adio and e-books which will keep me going for years

I've got 300 sq. ft dedicated to books at home. The smell of the ink and feel of the paper can't be beat. However, I don't buy hard copies here because i have a hard time giving books away and I don't want to have to ship everything home, so the e book suffices.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: BartSimpson BartSimpson: Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: Last movie I saw in theatres? Capitalism: A Love Story. There were only two other people in there. The irony is strong today! C:ALS was produced for about $21 million dollars and it made only $17 million in the box office and has knocked back an amazing $475,000 in DVD sales. In sum it lost about $3.5 million dollars. Meaning that this moved failed as a capitalist venture. Not sure how that's irony. If the movie was pro-capitalist, then it might be irony. SO... it was more along the lines of a good socialist/communist money losing story?

I have a Kindle, and though it won't replace my extensive book library, it will certainly enhance it allow me to bring a number of books to sea without filling a locker.
