I think it is ridiculous. He has not been proven guilty in court of any offence, so he should not have his license revoked. No matter what asshole he is. The drivers license guy is a citizen. Would be nice if I could just take every asshole's license away. Believe me, no one but me would be driving here anymore. Of course after my own "private investigation", which entails as much as "you cut me off, gimme your license" or "you are allowed to go 80 here, why the fuck do you do 70? Gimme your license".

So there

Bloody immigrants come here and try to take over.

What do you think of 90 day license suspensions based on a cop's say so that you were drunk?

That too, is imo ridiculous when it is just his saying so. The cop should prove it by blood test (refusing to take that test would result in the same punishment as you would get when proven guilty of driving drunk).

The cop does use a hand held breathalyzer. I can see suspending the license for 24 hours if you fail that test, just as a cop should be able to suspend your license for 24 hours if he feels you are impaired in any way. But after that is should go to court and have to be proven there, not just based on a cop's say so.

Here in Durham Region, just East of Toronto, we have a Road Watch program. You can go online or call in a plate number to report aggressive driving.

It's no accident this guy lost his license, we're hearing only 1/3 of the story.

You don't have to be guilty of anything to lose your license. You can have your license suspended or revoked for a ton of reasons.

And that is fair?
Just because someone is PMS-ing, had his boss yell at him, a wife who kicked him out for cheating, name a reason, people are calling to bitch about you because you made a mistake, or maybe you passed them 20 over the limit while they were doing 10 under, and you lose your license?
Prove in a court of law that I am a danger to everybody.

My experience is that MOST of the drivers on the roads are goddamn idiots who should have their licenses revoked. I tend to be a live-and-live civil libertarian, but I'm going to start ratting people out. I'm sick as hell of seeing old broads crawl the highways, teenaged princesses texting away and greasy mooks in their 90hp front wheel drive shitboxes with coffee-can exhaust modifications and thumping subwoofers. It's time to take back the streets.

In my area, "highway" speed limit is 60, and going down Montrose Hill it's 80. So the old wives drive 50-ish, and then off Montrose Hill... 60... Then, at the bottom of the hill, there are traffic lights (still 80). People slow down. Next traffic light, with a little luck, they found their throttle, and actually go 80. But OOOHHHHH!!!!! 2 lane high way (one lane this way, other lane other way), SCARYYYY!!!! 60. Then finally, 4 lanes, and they speed up to fucking 90, so you still can't pass them, unless you want a ticket. And then back up hill again, 80... 70... 60... You know, going up hill costs gas. They forget that braking going downhill costs brakes!! Fucktards.

I don't doubt that he may be an asshole or douche bag but he's not been found guilty of anything in the eyes of the law. Possibly loosing your job because you don't have a license is very serious and shouldn't be possible because of hearsay or complaints. I bet when you dig down a bit farther, there's a personal link between an alleged victim who complained and someone in the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

I agree with this. The government lies to remind you that (according to them) driving is a "privilege." But it's not. It's a necessity for life for many--for instance those that drive for a living.

If youa re going to remove someone's driving "privilege" then due process must be followed, and you can't leave this at the discretion of bureaucrats. Sounds like the4 poor guy has a dud for a Minister too with him essentially saying that "Even though I'm the minister in charge of this department, there's nothing I can do." Yeah, nothing except collect your paycheque, right?

I'm sure it takes more than 1 occasion to get someone to lose their license. I'll bet he's a perpetual offender with a past.

And yes, it's absolutely fair.

You're suspected of drinking, your car is towed and your lose your license for a period of time. No conviction.

Street racing? You lose your license for a while too. No conviction.

Despite what Zipperfish says, you're not entitled to a drivers license. The government and those who work for and enforce government law and rules can revoke that privilege at any time.

If you drive for a living and you drive like an idiot then perhaps it's time to reconsider your behaviour so you don't lose your job.

Do we start having sympathy for chronic drunk drivers cause they drive a truck for a living or do we do the smart thing and take this guy off the road before he kills someone?

If he's a perpetual offender, then he should be put through some kind of judicial or quasi-judicial procedure to detemrine such, not at the whim of some bureaucrat. Street racing is excessive speeding adn dangerous driving. It's a crime. It's on the books. Drunk driving its a crime. It's against the law. You seem have trouble differentiating between breaking the law and arbitrary revocation of a licence by a bureaucrat.

Driving ius an entitlement if the people of Canada demand that it be one. And they should. If you obey the laws of the road, you should be entitled to drive. When you accept that it is a privilege you hand over power to petty bbureaucrats who can ruin your life with impunity at the stroke of a pen.

At least a Cop is a person of authority though, the registry office is there to provide a service at a cost for a customer.

Diabetes or heart conditions where the drugs you need will affect your driving. Poor eyesight in one or both eyes. Many other health related reasons.
