Thanos Thanos: All in all the four years on the sidelines gives them an excellent opportunity to finally address all the post-Chretien internal problems that they were pretending didn't exist over the last five years. That's been the Liberals biggest problem they never had the chance to clean house, now they have do.

EyeBrock EyeBrock: I'm just looking forward to see how Jack handles Quebec. Jack will get nothing done for Quebec, he just doesn't have the power to do so. I'll say he'll try to pit Quebec against Harper saying that he's trying to do right by Quebec and Harper won't help him.

dino_bobba_renno dino_bobba_renno: Little word of advice to Liberal supporters, don't pick Rea as your leader. His only loyalty is to himself. I understand the idea of "uniting the left" but anyone who throws something like this out there so soon after a defeat is in nothing more than panic mode and only trying to save his own career. He's Power Corp guy. They won't miss the boat this time.

Thanos Thanos: And in the end, despite their trademarked arrogance and contempt and snotty attitude of permanent entitlement to holding the reins of power, they're still far preferrable to the economic radicalist insanity the NDP will always offer. Not so trademarked. Arrogance and entitlement tend to go with power, as opposed to a single political party. Witness how Harper treated Parliament and the people of Canada as impediments, for example. As for the NDP "radicalist insanity"--I'm not so convinced. I'm sure you would have been bleating the samne ting when they floated the idea of a socialized medical system. Yet it didn't turn out to be so radical after all, did it? Turned out to be pretty good, in fact. Can't help but notice that the Conservatvies are seeing the national debt go up under their tenure after years of fiscal responsibility by the Liberals. Harper has managed to out-do Trudeau to run up the biggest deficit ever. Don't you hate it when fact trumps ideology?

They're all guilty of this, CPC moreso. No doubt the National debt is going up, but you have to put that into proper context. That context being the Global recession and the massive stimulus spending. The same spending that was suggested to be much higher by the opposition parties mind you.

The same spending that was suggested to be much higher by the opposition parties mind you. Exactly. The Liberals became the de facto ruling party, so their arrogance simply exceeded anything that had been seen in the past, especially in Quebec where the sense of entitlement mutated to downright criminality. But the arrogance comes with power, in my opinion, and it doesn't matter who it is. And I admit to being a little unfair in that Harper got caught in a global meltdown not of Canada's making. Not only that but he resisted the urge of the more right-wing US to fork over billions from the taxpayers of that country to the corporations and banks. I have my complants about Harper, but fiscal responsbility isn't one of them. my bad.

It's going to be a giggle to watch Lemmy! This whole Layton and massage parlours isn't over yet either. I'm sure there is more stuff of a very similar ilk to come out.

Look at the chick who went on vacation during the election. I'm sure she just ran as a lark, now gets to earn what, 100k or more all of a sudden. Hope for her sake she's a quick learner. The word has apparently gone out for electees to shut the fuck up until Layton tells em what to say. He's probably going to do a Harper trying to keep this mob in line. I hope this isn't a Pyrrhic victory for them and we wind up with no opposition.

Why is it that the NDP can get away with this? Canadians just laugh it off that we're paying a girl with no job experience 100k. Do we give them a break cause they're a 3rd rate party? If the Conservatives or Liberals did that, shit would hit the fan.

I'm sorry? Did the NDP break any rules for their candidates? Did they not win their elections?
That is democracy.

It's going to be an interesting four years for the NDP. If they don't solidify this new support base in Quebec, next time it'll swing back to someone else, and not necessarily the Bloc.

That is democracy. I don't mean it in a legal sense, I mean in a general sense. If the Liberal party tried running some golf course beer girl it wouldn't be generally accepted by the party, the opposition or the voters.
