That still is not a solution for transferring the burden of company risk onto your employees.
I don't think a store subtracts their losses because of theft from the December pay cheque of their employees?

herbie herbie:
Yes, I agree with you. Taking it out of their paycheck IS against the law, not that it stopped anyone.
But who's the real moron? I'd venture to say the person that killed someone over $50 is.

Oh, of course. But the fact you risk your life for a few bucks is in my book sheer stupidity, resulting in death. The result of that stupidity is a dumb law, that annoys a lot of people, including gas station owners.
I wonder why no one takes on these businesses who take it out of pay cheques, especially when it is illegal?

Brenda Brenda:
It reminds me of the stupid law we have here in BC that you have to pre-pay your gas at the pump, because one moron jumped in front of a car and got killed while a gas thief tried to flee.

Actually, they enacted the law because gas-n-gos went through the roof a few years back when gas prices jumped.

More and more gas stations across the country are going to prepay (regardless of local laws) because of the huge losses they incur. When I worked at a local gas station, we lost about $500 per week until they installed video cameras and instituted pre-pay (because gas thieves usually obscure their license plates).

Then losses dropped to zero.

Just curious, were those losses taken out of your pay cheque?

I worked at an Esso when I was younger.. The rule was if we got a license plate number it didn't come off our cheque. I don't remember if anyone ever actually had to pay for a gas and run during their shift.

I used to work at a gas station too (coincidentally, Esso ) in the night shift. We had bullet proof windows (we were in a booth), camera's and that kind of stuff, but no pre-pay. A gas and run would be taken to the cops for them to deal with it.

I always wondered why people feel the need to tip a waitress who brings them food in a nice warm restaurant, but the poor sap who does Full-Serve in -40 weather is lucky to get a thank you. They should be paid much more.

I agree. I actually loved doing what I did (except for the hours, the hours between 3 and 5 am are a bitch ) and the tips were a nice extra.
