left the country bankrupt. It was Chrètien fiscal responsibility that brought us back to a healthy economy. Paul Martin as finance minister. Nothing Mulroney did had any influence other than a negative impact on Canada.
Mulroney was the most corrupt, criminal prime minister ever, but policy-wise he was pretty effective. NAFTA was a good thing and the reforms of the Bank Act that he made were key to avoiding the 2007-08 financial meltdown. I don't like Mulroney. He should have to pay back his settlement money and he should do jail time for the Airbus scandal. But as far as his government's legacy, NAFTA and the Bank Act are two MAJOR successes.
