Why should we want to participate in the UN after all that the UN has done: sabotage any attempts to address global climate issues, support Israel unconditionally, vilify Venezuela, Rwanda (well, all of Africa, really), Iraq, Bosnia/Croatia, etc, etc? The UN is the most dysfunctional council in existence. Fuck 'em. Our internatational image would be best maintained by distancing ourselves from such a farce.

1. Kyoto is Obamanomics in a nutshell. Take from the rich countries and give to the poor nations. It would cripple the Canadian economy and make Canada less productive.

2. We are a country of 36 million, and we give more aid than many other countries. Maybe Germany and Portugal can now cough up more aid for Africa, they have more population than Canada, and our UN council seat.

3. Can't win, we are buying more planes so Canada can help out more with UN missions, but then the Liberals say we shouldn't by more military equipment.

4. Israel's is protecting it own borders from a Hamas-controlled Palestinian ministry who really does not want peace with Israel, but rather to kill every Jew they can.

Aid to Africa?
Yea, like any of it gets to the starving millions. I spent a year of my life on famine relief in Ethiopia and another year in other various bits of the continent. Our 'aid' quickly disappears into some president-for-life's pocket and buys BMW's and Migs. Throwing money at Africa hasn’t worked for the 50 years we have been doing it.

Canada's role as a peacekeeper?
For the past 20 years Bangladesh and Fiji have provided more UN peacekeepers than Canada.
It's a myth swallowed by those with an aversion to those nasty army guys carrying guns.

Newsflash, before 1956 Canada was known for kicking ass, not building schools and drainage ditches.

Second newsflash, the army are trained to kill our enemies, it may startle you but that is their job.

Israel and Jews in general have been persecuted, murdered, suffered pogroms and genocide. Even today they have enemies barking at their borders. Their people are killed by terrorists worldwide. The Mumbai killers went out of their way to hunt down the few Jews in that city. I think Canada can try and help out a maligned and oppressed people who have been hated for 1400 years for just being Jews.

It's funny how so many on the Left support Hamas and Hezbollah but vilify the only democratic ME country that has a Pride parade, universal suffrage, equal rights and a free press.

So if this stuff makes the dictators in Africa and the Middle East miffed , good.
