Thanos Thanos:
I think I'm still fairly safe in saying that a TeaBircher fringist like O'Donnell, whose religion is even further to the right that that of Jerry Falwell, has zero chance of winning in a place like Delaware. And if the few remaining GOP moderates are refusing to throw their support behind the extremist insurgent candidates that are destroying the Republican primary selection process, then it just goes to show that the Palinist/anti-government/anarcho-capitialist mindset of the fringists has limited support even in it's own alleged demographic. After this silliness burns itself out in November, the GOP will be even more screwed than they are right now because they'll be forced to develop actual policies to counter the Democrats, rather than relying solely on the incoherent rage of an utterly despicable sub-segment of their rapidly dying ideological coalition.

Don't truth me man. (Kurt Vonnegut, Sirens of Titan) I prefer to look forward to the coming apocalypse - better than reality TV. As long as we can keep the Bart type refugees out.

One of the few KV novels I haven't read--but that quote has inspired me to seek it out! Bart's always welcome at my place!

People also said she had zero chance of winning the primary and she was outspent some 26:1 and still managed to pull off a victory. I'd not be so quick to write her off.

The Tea Party has won a series of elections where the old pricks in the GOP had anointed one of their lackeys only to see the Tea Party dark horses win. And the GOP still doesn't get the message.

After November, the reality is that the GOP will have a Tea Party Caucus in Congress. Like it or not, that's what will be.

As long as he's here for just a visit, I don't mind. But if he gets to stay here and vote, nuh uh.

The quote is from when they're shipwrecked in a cave, nothing to eat and slowly dying. But there are these jellyfish things on the walls that absorb all your suffering and make things blissful. I think it's a metaphor.

No, you don't want hard-working, law-abiding, self-starting, financially independent people in Canada and we won't send you any. But you can have all the lay-about anarchists, socialists, and social welfare dependent losers you want. [B-o]

I don't want people who destroy their own nest to come up here and do the same. The qualities you mention are all great, but I would add empathic and non-paranoid to the list of requirements. Actually the yanks we took after Vietnam, or the ones mentioned in my recent post did very well for themselves - not many layabouts there. Just you know, kinder and gentler than many of their countrymen.

Yeah, I'm all for taking as many of the good Americans as possible. I just don't want any of the militia lets-kill-the-gays/libs/President types coming up here ever.

If you're saying that muslims are homophobes and you can get your liberal pals to sign on with that, then I'd be happy to retract that comment.

My point is that the foaming-at-the-mouth Tea Party people are actually kind of moderate compared to what all you folks have allowed into Canada.

I'm fairly certain that the only lasting result of TeaBircher/Palinism will be to put the final nails in the coffin of the old GOP. They, thanks to their blatantly bigoted public behaviour, really stand no chance at all of growing among the other demographics that aren't white, middle-aged/seniors, and easily terrified by demagogues. Any chances of this type of 'conservatism' expanding among blacks, latinos, college-educated, or women has probably been compltely obliterated by the rank stupidity of the last eighteen months of truly deplorable activities and statements. That 'Dewey Defeats Truman' thing that is probably going to begin this upcoming November could quite possibly lead to at least a decade of Democrat victories bt default. By embracing kooky silliness as the main attribute of their new candidates the GOP has shown itself to be an institution that offers nothing and shouldn't be taken seriously by the huge majority of voters.

While Canada has allowed undesireables in, and allowed them to fester, so too has the US. The 9-11 bunch were all approved by the American gov't.

There needs to be a new version of the Godwin Law to apply to people who pull out the race card when they can't win an argument any other way.

The institution of the GOP has already stated its opposition and contempt for Tea Party conservatives. Which is hastening the downfall of the neo-cons.

Of course, it's really fun to see liberals like yourself defending the establishment neo-cons like Bush and Cheney and Rove from people who are actual conservatives.
