What a crock! Here in Ab. we certainly have no 'shortage' of fat-asses of all ages. Dress it up any way you want, but the fact of the matter is that calories burned is less than calories consumed. By and large,(no pun intended), it is a lifestyle choice!

There are unhealthy choices at affect you regardless of calorie count. Trans fats for example. MSG. Studies are indicating that the Japanese affinity for fish and low heart disease is not what they eat as much as a lack of what is in red meat. Obesity is a problem and eating more calories then you burn is a factor but there is more to it.

most everything is a lifestyle choice, thats the whole concept behind chronic disease self management, ie the patient is taught that what they do in thier home and in the community can have agreater affect on their healthcare than a doctor or acute care facilities can,

Fat peeps are fat because they stuff their faces, and then rather than go do a wee bit of exercise, they fill up the big ol choney bowl, and go park their fat asses in front of the t.v for the rest of the day.

Actually there are genetic factors that play a big part. Cortisol for example. Gherlin is another. Hormones that affect appetite, fat regulation, and metabolism for example. Genetics can play apart in nutrient absorption. A decreased absorption rate means less calories per bite. In addition, many of these hormones are tied to psychological well being or physiological factors. For instance, sleeplessness affects allergies. Lack of sleep affects white blood cells which affect allergies as well as many other things. Diet is important. A calorie free life isn't the end though. I recall a very sad event from my childhood where the community was shocked by the early death (36) of a man who was a fitness person. Active and healthy. Died of a stroke. My dad quit smoking 3 days after that happened.

Of course there are those who have bonafides contributing to theor obesity. Still. Nothing that couldn't be helped to an extent with physician monitored diet and exercise program. The problem with this of course is that it takes dedication, and determination. Much easier to just say " To hell with it, I just can't lose weight"!

No, I saw that. We have greater control yes but its not black and white. I work in the industry and there are people who despite being on strict diets gain weight. Our bodies were designed that way. Hell us fighting about this probably cost us each 2 days of life. Enough. Have a beer and chillax dude. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif)

I also had upper airway resistance which developed into full blown sleep apnea. i have no doubt that my drinking and smoking and eating like most 20 year olds screwed up my weight and health, but i still have a strong belief that now that the medical community is aware of high upper airway resistance and sleepapnea....i have a strong belief that a few less people are headed down the same road that i travelled. my own personal situation? i will never know. is it an excuse to not eat better and exercise? not for me. because i also have a strong belief that the standard reccomendations apply to everyone nomatter why they are over weight. i can tell you one thing, if any of you have the discipline to stay healthy please do it, because its going to take me alot more discipline to dig myself out of the hole i've created for myself. Don't come here, you might not get out.

I wish that I did have an extra 10 lb! I know from experience, and being advised by my family D. that I could gain more weight IF I were to adopt a junk-food diet coupled with extreme inactivity. However, I have resigned myself to being 'underweight' and quite healthy instead. Oh, I do eat my share of junk-food, but it is countered with a well balanced diet of fish, chicken, fresh veggies and exercise.
eg; Tonites supper is in the oven right now, ( I know what time it is! ) chicken & wild rice which will be served with garden fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, and a couple of whole wheat buns, Desert will be freshly baked apple pie with cinnamon sauce, washed down with a couple of cold Pepsis! The rest of the week-ends meals will be similar, but, the time away from the table this week-end will involve steady physical labor, in lieu of 'exercise'.

i truly am glad for you.
how many carbs do you think that meal is? how many of them are sugar?
my experience tells me that the 2 pepsi alone is enough to take 6 diabetics out of low glycemic shock.
