Not quite sure of your point here Herbie? I used to work in this industry, or tree spacing, anyway. Used to be dominated by Finns who were fresh out of the Finnish army where they did it. They moved thru the landscape like lawnmowers. Made good coin, (60K in 1980 dollars). I didn't make as much as them, but certainly comfortably funded my education. But I could see the clouds on the horizon. Now it's all Punjabi contractors who treat their workers the way they do in the farming business - ie like shit. I don't see the point of treating people like shit, paying them shit for a major industry in BC. Why not pay people a fair wage and then tax them on that?

We used to pick berries. Then the farms we are renamed "Formerly Smith's Blueberry Farm" and Gramma and Grampa and Cousin It off the boat did all the picking.
Soon as they got their papers they all went fuck you, we ain't working under those conditions. So now they bring in more foreigners.
Three decades on the downward spiral, my old lady's worked at a unionized grocery store for 2 years and makes $2 less than I did in 1982. The immigrant cleaning lady here undercut everyone else (charged 15-20% of what others did) and she sub-contracts others to do the work. I've seen the whole family scrubbing away at night, lucky to split $20 between them. Sweep, clean, dust, wash floors twice a week, windows and outside walk shovelled or swept once a week: $89.00 a month.
It's fucking disgusting we let people demean themselves, worse that they feel they have no choice and those that say it's a good thing "need killun"

A shoe box. Hah, we would have given anything to have a shoe box. We lived in a pothole in the middle of the freeway. It would fill up with water when it rained. At least the tires of the big trucks were too big to fit into the pot hole, so we would only get squashed by the cars and vans.

You had water?? Man we would'a given anything to have water. We had to poke each other in the eye just so we could drink our own tears.

Tears shmears. You had it good. The highways department came and filled in our pothole, while we were in it. So not only didn't have any water anymore, we had no air either. We had to inhale our own farts just to have something to breathe.

too litle, and too late.

For that ship maybe but nothings ever too late. There is always going to be people exploiting our system, expecially terrorists. It may not do dick all for this situation in time but may help future ones.

andyt andyt:
Location: Haida Gwaii
Housing: Tents (Yes it rains a lot there, but these are pretty good tents, not too many leaks)
Services: Food, medical care
Jobs: cleaning out the latrines.

Location: Montreal
Housing: Well, whatever is there is probably worse than what they left back in Sri Lanka;
Services: More Strip Clubs per capita than anywhere else;
Jobs: Standing next to Montrealers so they can look better by comparison.

Ha!
