stratos stratos:
andyt andyt:
It's a mosque and cultural center. So what's your sacred radius, where would you allow them to build it? And any other religions or ethnicities you would ban from ground zero? Arabs were involved in 9/11 - no Arab businesses?

Then I'll ask you this why do they want to put one there?

Now andyt from what i've seen you're perty much anti US in your posting. So lets go and set up a US cultural center and Chritian center right next door to you where we will ring church bells and have people bosting the greatness of the US. You've expressed your dislike for the US site being next door to you, yet the Canadian Gov. has forced you to have it there, so tuff on you, tolerate it.

So it's bell ringing you are against? Then all churches should be banned, I'm not aware that mosques ring bells. As for the other shit you mention, doesn't bother me, but where I live isn't zoned for US cultural centers. Churches already abound in my neighborhood, and so far I seem to have managed to tolerate it without freaking out. Even gone inside the odd one. And the American friends I made when I went to school and worked there would be surprised to hear I'm anti-American, tho they share the concerns about what's going on in the US - just more of those commie liberals I guess.

I would be surprised if they can get away with that in NYC. But if noise is the concern, frame it in terms of that, and ban any other enterprise that makes noise, including churches.

I would be surprised if you heard it at all over the screaming sound of police cars, fire trucks and ambulances that goes on all day

Another important indication of what the Presidential stance would have been like if this controversy had erupted whilst Bush was still in office:

"An enormously complex and emotional issue -- but ultimately the right thing to do. A president is president for every citizen, including every Muslim citizen. Obama is correct that the way to marginalize radicalism is to respect the best traditions of Islam and protect the religious liberty of Muslim Americans. It is radicals who imagine an American war on Islam. But our conflict is with the radicals alone,” - Michael Gerson, former speech-writer for George W. Bush.

So, yes, I do miss Bush. Very much so in this particular instance. For all his flaws, even for all his horribly unforgivable mistakes, he still managed to possess a certain foresight, magnanimity, and basic personal decency that the current FOX/Beck/Limbaugh/Palin/TeaParty right wing is completely lacking.

I love how so many Republicans swear to uphold the Constitution, but only when it applies or can be twisted to their set values. God Bless America.

Kinda like when Democrats want to take away my Second ammendment right??

no one said they cant practice Islam.

Well isn't that why the Supreme Court just essentially banned gun control?

Furthermore, how exactly did the Dems try and take away your second amendment rights? That seems a little far fetched to me.

Should we have expected less?

Yeah, apart from continuing war in Irak. He's a double face.

To me this has less to do with freedom of religion, it has more to do with respecting the 3000 Americans and foriengers that dies on the site.

Plus I have had enough of Barack H. Obama lecturing me.

Usually by banning the ability to purchase firearms, can be seen as Democrats negating the possibility of Americans carrying out the Second Amendment. Most firearm bans/control occurred in cities or states that are quite Democrat leaning.

I'd be curious to know just how many 2nd amendment protectionists have NO problem about the attempt to repeal the 14th amendement. So far, I know of at least one on this site.
I guess the US Constitution is only inviolate for SOME rights eh?

I wish the 14th was followed properly...Affirmative action would not exist under the eqaul protection clause.
