Another important indication of what the Presidential stance would have been like if this controversy had erupted whilst Bush was still in office:

So, yes, I do miss Bush. Very much so in this particular instance. For all his flaws, even for all his horribly unforgivable mistakes, he still managed to possess a certain foresight, magnanimity, and basic personal decency that the current FOX/Beck/Limbaugh/Palin/TeaParty right wing is completely lacking.
