Long live freedom of the press, I say.

I agree. Freedom of the press is very important. But it would be nice if they'd show a little discretion and, dare I say it, some loyalty to their respective countries?

Seriously, the media run around committing acts of treason and espionage all the time and they actively betray the trust of the people who confide in them. "Off the record" only means off the record when it suits them.

And then they wonder why the military, whose members can literally die because of betrayed secrets, don't trust them?

Claim of Privilege: A Mysterious Plane Crash, a Landmark Supreme Court Case, and the Rise of State Secrets
$1:
Ira tells the story of the 1953 U.S. Supreme Court case that formed the basis for the controversial state secret privilege—the precedent that allows the United States government to stop lawsuits by claiming that national security secrets might be revealed in court. Ira talks to Barry Siegel, author of the book Claim of Privilege, and Judy Loether, whose father’s death was at the center of the landmark Supreme Court case. (14 minutes) Song: "Friends and Ancestors," Nedelle

Act Two:The Secret Life Of Secrets.

I think that abuse is a two way street Bart.

They've all got their fingers in the opium business there. It's not a matter of dealing with the cleanest group, but the lesser of the obvious evils.

I'm not sure if this information is really new. From the Top 9 list, only 5 is partially surprising, because I was expecting some British/NATO funding.

There's also an allegation that four Canadian soldiers were killed in 2006 in another US-involved 'friendly' fire incident. If this is true then count my dwindling support officially finished for any Canadian participation at all in this useless war, especially if someone's been deliberately fudging the record-keeping somewhere along the line.

What I'm surprised is not getting more play in the news is how this Intelligence analyst was able to get so much info off the servers and in such a straigth forward way. I don't know what kind of operation they are running in their Military Intelligence but I know enough about how are civilian agency works here to tell you one isn't just going to walk in with a CD-RW and download at will without being noticed, certainly not over a long period of time.

Second point is this guys reasoning for doing it. Something like he could not live with the fact stuff was going on that was not being reported. Really Sherlock? Classified intelligence stuff is not being reported? What kind of job did you think you were getting into? Anyone going to work for places like that or CSIS who don't think they will ever run across something that is not being reported right should not be trying for the job. You're going see a lot of that and going to see more misinformation in news groups and in the end you're going to have to keep your mouth shut and stop going to those places if you can't handle keeping your mouth shut. Its the nature of the job.
