Brenda Brenda: bootlegga bootlegga: Brenda Brenda: So we are going to kill everything that might be a little dangerous to our poor little skins? Why don't we just take EVERY bit of nature down, and dump asphalt on the ground, so we know for sure nature can not harm us?
[/sarcasm] Given that it's sap can cause permanent blindness, I'd hardly call this "a little dangerous". $1: "If you should happen to get the sap in your eyes, it can blind you either temporarily or permanently." And what is the chance you get it in your eyes, and what is the chance that it actually causes blindness? You do realize that bleach, stainless steel cleaner, dusting spray, toilet bowl cleaner, oven cleaner, carpet cleaner, window cleaner, drain cleaner, etc etc, stuff we use every single day in our houses, can cause blindness or severe damage to the eyes? Want to ban that too? http://www.greathealthandwellness.com/id5.htmlApples and oranges. Your comparison is like me saying, well, wolves can be dangerous, but more people get bitten by dogs, so should we ban dogs? One is a plant that grows six feet tall and most Canadians know little to nothing about, while the others are common household chemicals with warning labels and for those who use them, they should be aware of the inherent risks in using such harsh products.

They're not banning anything Brenda, they simply removing a potential hazard, just like they would do if a Grizzly bear showed up in your yard this afternoon.

Yeah, you could also go inside and keep your garbage inside so you don't have to get it killed... There are a lot of bears around here at the moment, and none of them are being shot. We are asked to keep our garbage inside, and to watch out, so the bears can do whatever they have to, and we ain't feeding them. I like that way better than "ohhhh, something that can harm us, lets destroy it!!!" Not that we take precautions and wear sleeves and pants... (in this plants case, not in the bears case )

Brenda Brenda: So because people are ignorant, we should ban? What about kids running and playing in this stuff? Can't expect children to know this info and you can't expect parents to successfully protect their kids against this. Eradicate this dangerous weed.

You know to watch out for certain plants. This is one of them, just like those nettles that burn your skin. Eat dirt, eat worms, and live to tell. Oh no, wait, lysol, clean and not play in a sandbox, because there may be animals (and bugs) in there, and let them kids get all kind of allergies that didn't exist when we were young.

You can't possibly expect people to simply ignore a dangerous weed like this? C'mon. That just isn't going to happen and if the city doesn't do something you can expect people will simply take matters into their own hands and do it themselves. The risk to children is unacceptable.

Brenda Brenda: yeah, you really die of this. I love the overreaction... I'd say blindness isn't an over reaction. I suppose you think safety glasses shouldn't be used since you won't die from getting stuff in your eye either.

You think that touching it will cause you to be blind? It doesn't. When gotten into the eye, it might cause blindness. It's not easy to break it and get it into your eye tho. There's more change you get a rose thorn in your eye than juice of this plant.

Kids playing in it can't get sap on their hands and then rub their eyes? Really Bren, you are being a bit silly over this. Are you against grass cutting, tree trimming? Are you against pest control? You don't murder cockroaches in your home do you? Silverfish have a right to live too right?
The weed is dangerous and toxic and you should have no problem with cities taking efforts to keep it out of their parks.

No, I am not being silly about this. You realize that Aconitum (that is sold in stores) is a poisonous plant? And so is Taxus? Hogweed is NOT toxic, you can feed it to sheep and cows, moose and deer.
It is not so that the moment you have it on your hands and you rub your eyes, you get blind instantly. It stings, you clean it out, no direct sunlight on it for a while and done. As you do with EVERY sap of plants you get in your eyes.
I have no problem with cities taking it out of their parks, but I do have a problem with telling me what I can have in my garden. Goes for dandelions too. A century and half ago, this plant was taken from South east Asia to Europe, as a garden plant. After it blooms, it dies.

Export these weeds to China, North Korea and Iran where they will do some good.
Actually we don't need to dump these on North Korea they have Kim Jong Ill. He has killed more North Koreans than General MacArthur ever did.

EyeBrock EyeBrock: That's what I have to do. Pisses me right off. Could always pick some up elsewhere, herbicides are still sold in most other provinces.

It's a pain mate. I usually do a run to the NY border. Really, I have spent bloody hours digging up dandelions and now there's all sorts of weird green shit out-competing the grass.
It's all very silly as golf courses and hotels can still use weedkiller, just not us plebs.
I'm thinking that a lot of undecided voters will be cursing this law as they struggle with their lawns.
