Oh, boo hoo.
I live in a 'rural remote community', and 99% of us have access to internet. Every home is hooked up. We have 3 of those 'public internet' computers in our library, and everytime I'm in the library they're empty.
Access to the internet isn't an issue anymore, now that the private sector is filling the gaps.
Me too. Matter of fact I own the local Internet company. And I'm fucking sick of calling the mayor every summer to remind him the library is for local taxpayers and not a congregation point for tree-planters too fucking cheap to pay $3 for their Internet access at a cafe.
And how they don't "need" 12 more terminals there's already 50 X as many public terminals per capita as there are in Vancouver or Burnaby libraries. They just WANT the grants. There is no NEED.
Matter of fact 90% of the townies using the Library are so fucking cheap they squeak when they walk. They sit there and use up the librarian's time for help doing Facebook or MSN, they're not researching shit.
I'm frankly sick of the "Oh look at me I'm stupid and completely helpless and you OWE me" attitude, they don't want to actually learn how you do shit for yourself. And other grantsuckers play on it... eeew but they're so helpless. And poor.
Well no fucking wonder, they won't learn, won't change, won't do shit but play it up and will never be anything other than poor, ever.
You know what, with peak tourist season, a music festival that brought thousands of tourists in and several hundred tree planters in town our Internet Cafe didn't gross $20 a day (from Internet). The other guy gave his up, he didn't even recover the $60 a month cost of his DSL and there were no provable benefits to his Bistro.
