ASLplease ASLplease: nope, you are merely arguing from a point of view that all other people have an extreme point of view. You seem to get good mileage from this at times, but really? do you honestly think it applies to this thread?
I don't recall anyone suggesting or supporting the idea of eliminately all fines. No, I'm mearly pointing out the logical extension of the tax grab argument.

nope, you are arguing your point of veiw by trying to insist that everyone(perhaps just me) thinks that every fine is a tax grab.

My buddy's uncle was a cop years ago. He used to get so frustrated when he'd hand someone a ticket and they would inevitable say something about meeting a quota. His Sergeant told him a real good way to handle that comment. So the next time he handed out a ticket and got the ol' quota remark, he replied, "Oh no ma'am, they got rid of the quotas. Now we can write as many tickets as we like."

In fact you even implied you would knowingly and willingly break the law because you disagreed with tax grabs like traffic cameras.

I can't believe that I am having to write this to a self proclaimed educated adult...... just because you infer something, does not mean that it was implied. I suggest that you should ask for clarification rather than go after me on ridiculous premises like saying that I believe all fines are a money grab. BTW, I understand why you do this. It's all about maintaining a strong offense. ie you can't maintain a strong offense if you allow others to clarify their posts. Far be it, that a civilized discussion might break out because we are all giving each other a fair opportunity to clarify infered point of views.

You can always post more clearly (spell checking would help also) if you don't like it.

Zipperfish Zipperfish: The big secret the gummint won't be telling you is that people adjust their behaviour based on their odds of getting caught, not based on the severity of the punishment. So when you raise the fine without increasing enforcement--it's a money grab.
The other thing that happens is that once the fine gets to a certain level, people starting hiring lawyers to fight them. So for drinking and driving, they created an entire new form of law specializing in getting people off drunk driving charges--and they do very well. Well, I don't know about Ontario, but in Edmonton, they try to fix deadly intersections with signals changes first, and then if that doesn't fix the problem, they put up a red light camera. Every intersection in Edmonton with them has seen fatal car crash(es), so I'm all for them. I agree with your sentiment regarding the industry that has sprung up over fines (TICKETS, POINTTS, are just 2 popular companies out here), but there isn't much that can be done about them, sadly. Heck, on the Yellowhead (the main east-west route on the northside), the red light cams also hand out speeding tickets, which to me is also a good thing. Like Mustang said, if you don't want to pay, don't speed.

You posted about it being a tax grab did you not? You also posted that since you considered the fines to steep you were considering breaking the law by purposely obscuring your license plate to circumvent traffic cameras.

Yes, its all a matter of record on this thread, DerbyX. I wish you had focused on this, instead of manufacturing extreme POVs to aid your agruement. Why don't you just try and sharye your point of view, without putting words into other people's mouths? IMO, a discussion could be more interesting than a debate.

We all have something to share and we all have our own unique perspective on this. You don't need to take every conflicting opinion as a personal challenge, Derby. That is the sign of a problem personality. Whats worse is when its not a conflicting opinion that sets you off, but a manufactured opinion that sets you off. WTF is that about? Aren't you the slightest bit worried what this is doing to you?

ASLplease ASLplease: Mustang1 Mustang1: Ash1980 Ash1980: It is a soft politics tax grab like raising the tax on smokes. This is a Ontario Liberal wet dream.More money and a holier than thou image. How about don't run a red light? Then you won't have to worry about fines. How about every time you do something remotely wrong with your vehicle, you send a cheque to the government? Paying fines is only a minimum requirement, you can always send more if you feel its necessary. How about, "no". How about we go through the actual legal process first? How about we lose the hyperbole?

PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9: law. Here's a suggestion for ya, DON'T RUN RED LIGHTS and you won't be paying anything. Exactly. Or let's see him play the tough guy and do it front of the cop, then wip out his "excessive fine" play.
