Take a Honda Civic and smash it into a Smart Car head on..... tell me which car you'd rather be in.

Don't try and prove something to me :), I simply said you should use a better example than a head on collision with an 18-wheeler and you did. Like I say it was a bad example, the civic example is a better one. So we're done.

Mind you (and more pertaining to the subject), no one pushes over motorbikes just because they're small, death-traps and parked on Whyte Avenue. Ever see what happens to a motorbike when it has a head on collison with a civic? yet nobody's suggesting that if you buy a motorbike you're stupid and deserve to have it knocked over.

Nope, but motorcycle manufacturers don't claim their bikes have a 5 star safety rating either

Fair enough.

Well most people don't normally knock over a bike usually because people think the owner's linked to some gang or is some big ass biker dude in leather who's gonna fire bomb your house..... while the first thing I think of with a smart car is some organic-eating, PETA supporting, turtle neck-wearing, tree hugging hippy

As it goes for head on accidents with a bike, I'd still opt for the bike then the smart car.... at least you have a bit more maneuverability/agility then with a smart car, which is also top heavy for it's size and shape.... sharp turn that thing and you might as well prepare yourself for a nice roll like a tumbling apple down a hill. (more of my silly examples XD )

I agree....but it only leads me back to wanting to see the police back regularily to pound on drunken yahoos on Whyte after 8pm. :)

I've seen a hog hit a semi head on, the truck was fully loaded with concrete sewer pipes. The cyclist lived, though they had to airlift him to ensure he reached the hospital on time.
I was first on the scene and had to pull the bike off the guy, not a pretty site.
I've also had the pleaseure (dubious) of seeing the email in question with the smart car and it was a messy scene as well. The bike rider in my case lived, the smart car driver didn't.

Well I don't know much about that street, but I'll take your word that it's that bad. (I'm on the east coast)

But we have a few places like that, and in the last decade we've had plenty of issues with teens doing swarmings, smashing crap up and doing stupid things.... let alone the drunken adults.

There should be a stronger police presence where these sorts of things happen for sure.... I just sorta found this situation pretty funny..... I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone tried this.

It could have been a more serious situation.

Back in my uni days, the engineers took an Aggie's bug and filled it with chickens...he wasn't amused, but the rest of campus laughed their asses off!

Ah, I couldn't remember where I seen those photos... I knew it was online somewhere, but it was a few years back.

Years ago when I was kid, we lived in a townhouse complex. We'd always play hockey in the driveway to the parking lot(so we wouldn't damage any cars). There was this one bitch that would always bitch at us for it. One day we told her to fuck off so she chased us with her car. It was an Austin Mini and it was winter and she even chased us along the sidewalks.
Late that night we decided it was vengeance time. We jimmied her door open and proceded to fill the entire interior with snow. It was packed front to back, top to bottom. We then proceded to bury it as well.
Good times

Praxius Praxius:
But if you thought about doing that to hummers with a forklift, obviously you see my point.

He said who would be "dumb enough" to flip his car. I was merely just saying that I imagine a lot of people thought about doing that to smart cars because they just look so light and small, that it'd be easy to do.

I never said what they did was right.

He may think the people who did this were dumb, but so far it would seem they got away with it..... Overall, size, weight, safety, practicality and all that, I think purchasing a smart car is dumb in itself.

I know if I had one, someone flipping it would be the first thing on my mind, all the time.

No, I was not trying to put words in our mouth. My apologies if you took offence. My point is that obviously you and I have the self control to not act on our impulses.

I thought you might have also caught on that it's therefore not cool to defend those unibrows who do not have such self control. Their sort should be identified and removed from the herd at the earliest opportunity, before they can contribute to the gene pool.

Praxius Praxius:

I've seen 18-wheeler collisions with other vehicles before.... certainly not as bad as what I saw with a Smart Car.

I've seen regular sized cars, pickups, SUV's, Vans, etc... some would be crushed to the diver's seats.... some beyond.... this thing was flattened like a pancake and all that was recognizable of the Smart Car was its back wheels and tail lights.... that was it.

My point was that there's hardly anything in the front of those to protect you from a head on collision.

Take a Honda Civic and smash it into a Smart Car head on..... tell me which car you'd rather be in.

^ And this is just with a mid-sized car.... the damn thing not only gets crushed right to the driver, not only does the driver appear to take some heavy impact/damage.... but the car goes flying, becoming an even more dangerous projectile to those around the collision, such as people on a sidewalk or intersection.

And how much more damage would the passengers receive from flying around like that?

Meanwhile the Mercedes almost stops right where it impacted and the majority of the damage is localized to one side of the front of the car..... while the entire front of the Smart Car disintegrated. If you see the above view, the front of the Mercedes seems to impact right into the area of the smart car driver's leggs, if not chest.

I could see someone in the mercedes walking away from that or at least surviving.... whoever would be in the smart car would be so lucky.

Watch this video (listen to the audio)and it will explain the survivability of a Smart Car.

Those the pics you were talking about?

And it wasn't a smartcar, it was a volswagon.

I wouldn't ride in a smartcar myself, too cramped. I'd rather be in a crown vic or a pickup.
