PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9:
After my personal experience with the NDP in Ontario (ie Bob Rae's bullshit) I wouldn't trust a Dipper if he was hooked up to a polygraph machine.
Albeit you are correct, Layton and Duceppe certainly appeared to be the more serious of the candidates in the last election but I just can't bring myself to vote NDP.
Well understandable. But don't forget, Bob Rae is Bob Rae and he's a Liberal now, able to screw the Liberals up just as well. Not only that, but from my understanding, the NDP at the time didn't expect to win that time, thus never had a plan setup that was solid.
I remember when we were just about to vote in the NDP here in NS a month or so ago and I heard from so many comment on the CTV and CBC news sites from Ontario, screaming
"NO DON'T DO IT, LOOK AT WHAT THE NDP DID TO ONTARIO, BOB RAE THIS, BOB RAE THAT!!" That we'll be sorry, etc.
• Ontario isn't Nova Scotia
• Bob Rae isn't Darrell Dexter
• Different situation, different time
And besides.... one bad example.... compared to how many bad examples the Liberals and Conservatives have under their belt?
For us, the NDP here have proven themselves as opposition for a very long time. The Liberals screwed us over with the HST/BST and the last Conservative government royally screwed us over on the offshore deals, which they then tried to use whatever little money we go out of the new deal to pay of programs they didn't budget properly, only to then attempt to cover their tracks by delaying the last budget for as long as possible.
For many in Nova Scotia, I feel we're looking at it this way in regards to the NDP:
This is their first chance
ever to run the province. If they screw it up, it'll be the last time for a very long time and they'll be stuck at the bottom for another 30 years.... so they best do things right for everybody's sake.
But I can easily understand why other people in other places would have second thoughts on the NDP.
But rather then keeping the old routine of Good Cop/Bad Cop going with Libs and Cons.... the only other choice besides NDP is the Green Party
*shudders* And Elizabeth May is from my home town.... but hometown brownie points don't cut it for me. Unless people can show they know what the hell they're doing and not just in the election "because it's exciting" they don't get my vote.
And pampering the planet isn't the only thing to politics. While she and the party claim they have more of a platform, their only solid part of the platform is in their environment plans, which most I don't agree with.... why risk that?
