People should know better than what? Privacy rights are important, especially when organisations like the RIAA and MPAA think they have international jurisdiction.

So some smartass from Sweden should become a political pary? Please, there are organisations, THAT is the way to do it.

It's not one person. They have over 40,000 members. They didn't get two seats in EU Parliament for sweet talk. This is a legitimate issue that affects us all, and concerns the rule of law.

A political party is an organisation. This is an effective way of showing that people who want their rights protected mean serious business.

Do you seriously think the EU parliament doesn't have anything better to do? Don't you think those 40,000 "members" are pretty stupid people, that obviously have nothing else to worry about?
People are losing houses, and they worry about a fucking piece of music to be downloaded for free or not?
(I know, it is broader than that, but I guess you get my jist)
Not every country in the EU has the same rules and regulations about that stuff. Holland has rules. As a pub (for example) you pay a yearly fee (that is not a really low one) to be allowed to play a CD (that you pay fees over too) in your pub. Now, seriously, is this a EU thing? Come on...

Not at all. They are concerned about the rule of law. Do you think it is fair for an organisation that belongs to a country that is not yours to come in and start telling people how to run their country? That is what the RIAA and MPAA think they have the jurisdiction to do, and they are wasting money with stupid, illegal, trumped-up lawsuits to protect their ancient, outdated business model while people are losing their homes.

No, I don't think that is fair, and I think the law in that particular country can handle that. What "we" should do, is stop giving the EU the power to run every single country in the EU the way they want.

I just don't understand people who think they have a right to download other peoples property for free.

R=UP

Like Disney, taking folk tales and wrapping them up in copyright and trademarks for 150+ years. Heaving forbid they actually pay royalties to the creators of the original works.

Was the sarcasm a little to subtle? It's gone far beyond a few songs that people feel are too crappy to pay money for anyhow. It's gone from an artificial market shortage, to an industry that sustains itself based on threats, lies and intimidation. Tony Soprano kind of intimidation.

If someone steals from you and you steal back, is it still theft? The software and music corporations have gouged consumers for years. I feel NO GUILT WHATSOEVER stealing back from greedy corporations who did the same to me when THEY had the technological advantage. Now the tide has turned and its their tough shit that technology's now on my side. The bands aren't losing money. They're just making it on the concert scene instead, cutting out the corporate suits. Isn't that a good thing? The artists get the cash for their performances now and the fans get their 'hard copy' music cheaper or free.

Here's the thing. Record labels and movie studios put there product out there and set a price. You are free to pay that price or not. You may not like the price but you have the option of making your own music or not buying any at all. It's not a right to own music, nor is it a neccesity for you to buy it. When I was a kid we paid 20 bucks for one cd, I know the prices were steep. However we now have places like iTunes that sells cheap music, gives you the option to preview it, and also lets you choose which songs you want to buy rather than buying a whole album. There's no excuse for people to steal the music, you have options now. There is no defense for stealing copyrighted files on the internet.

Sure, there are options, but I don't care. I pay the concert ticket price so the band gets their return on their investment/artistry. I steal the download. I get what I want, the band gets what they want and FUCK THE MUSIC CORPORATION!

Just don't complain if someone ever steals something from you.

I won't complain or care or lose sleep. That's why I pay homeowners' insurance, so I don't HAVE to complain.

You're a better person than me. I don't like people taking stuff that I worked for. It bothers me.
