British Columbia's biggest coal customer is now China after the states started protectionest measures 15 years ago.
It costs the US a whack of coin to subsidize those outfits and they still have to import a million tonnes of our coal to blend with theres to make steel.
Australia did the same thing and killed BC's coal industry through subsidy's,at least China sends the boats, most of the time.

And here I thought all those old school buddies that Iggy had would have helped out here. Didn't he have Obama's ear, or were those posters he paid to have made of Iggy and Obama just for show?

I also recall many of us saying that the Dems were all about protectionism.

We did and thats why theres only 100,000 tonnes of coal going to the Hudsons bay to be shipped to the US every day instead of 4 million tonnes.

Protectionism doesnt work, the market will dictate the price on anything,Americans will cut their neighbours throats as fast as Canadians will for a job bid.

Why would they ship coal to the U.S. from Hudson's Bay?

I'm still not clear how anyone can deposit their pay cheque from their US sugar daddy and then tell them to F off.

The US isn't my "sugar daddy", so I guess I can tell them to go wherever the hell I want.

Yeah, but the mad-cow and softwood disasters that happened occurred with supposedly pro-business Republicans in Congress and the White House so I doubt the political colours down in the US matter at all when it's Canada-bashing time. When it comes time to blame Canada for something, as John McCain recently did by once again repeating the old lie that the 9/11 terrorists came out of Canada, any and every US politician regardless of party will smear us if it suits their immediate political needs.

Besides, the President can't stop American municipalities from doing something stupid, even if he wants to. As much as pointing fingers at Washington is usually appropriate, in this case it doesn't do any good.

I think before the US election the fact that both Obama and Clinton had protectionist ideation became apparent.. The money issued by the US feds to municipalities would have to be given to American tenders only.. so no surprise... how ever M. Ignatieff is the best man to deal with US trade by far in my opinion.
