I can't even begin to say what I think about this stupidity. NO judge should allow those fines. But again, SHE has to go to court to fight them...

Oh hell, yes, I fully agree. And most of the time, not so nice as reported in the first place

Absolutely! Simple calls can go really pear-shaped quickly!

For the level of violation there is no need for to be handcuffed and dragged away to a back room. I dont care if she told them to F*&^ OFF, I think our good Canadian Police have been watching too many American Cop Shows, and now have no problem violating our rights.

I think there may have been some 'resistance' seeing as she is also being charged with 'obstruct police' too. That's kinda code for 'fighting with the police and lying about your name'. Just my tuppence and I may be wrong.

$1: Although this appears to be a petty arrest, it looks like this chick talked her way, or shouted her way to an arrest and a charge. The fact that police think you can 'talk your way into a charge' is a fundamental problem, 'protect and serve' is the motto, not mouth back and go to jail. I know they go through a lot of a shit, it's part of the job, you don't like it, get the hell out, called free speech and we gotta be willing to fight for our right to mouth off to cops who think they can charge me for not holding a handrail, these cops are morons

You know what they say, once we start not holding on to hand rails. Chaos ensues and society falls apart.

Thin blue line mate. Sorts us from the Third World. The cops are acountable unlike thee. I jay walk, dont hold hand rails, have a lead foot, and curse like a sailor. Most cops dont care because there is more important things for them to do.

Like I say, pop by by, break a law or two and tell me to go fuck myself. See what happens.

What law did she break in the first place? Why was she even encountered?
I agree she should have kept her big mouth shut, but still ,there was no law she broke.

ah the damn escalator, I wish i could have ticked the shit out of some people when i was a mall cop. People get RIPED apart falling down those damn things...usually when they are running up or down against the stairs, then they look at me like I've got two freggin heads when i tell them they are idiots for doing something like that.
this, as is many other interactions with the police is damned if you do, damned if you don't. If the police didn't do anything and this lady, not paying attention got her foot caught and tumbled down the stairs, people would say 'why didn't the cops say something to her?', when they do say something, she blew up at them, causing a disturbance which is why she was arrested.
damned if you do, damned if you don't
FYI Schnek, it is to serve and protect in Canada, protect and serve is the americans bastardization of our motto.

I know if you give a cop attitude they throw the book at ya, I would of just held on to the rail.
One time I was cycling down a two lane road I was in the right most lane. A lane to my right appeared for traffic to turn right at the lights. There was no traffic, I signaled that I was turning left, doesn't make sense. But one time I got hit by a car that assumed I was turning right.
I got pulled over by a cop and he told me I should of followed the right lane next time? I told him if I was in a car could I do that ? He said no. I told him as nice as could that I'm sure he knew that cyclist on streets have to follow the same laws as vehicles, he's said ya but your on a bike.
Didn't argue with the idiot, just said ok sir.
