This is disgusting and makes me sad to think kids can still be so cruel to one another! I guess some things never change? :(

Does anyone know WHY she's being bullied? I mean, they must have some reason, whether real or perceived, to be picking on her. Not that I'm defending these punks' actions in ANY WAY, but we haven't got the whole story here.

It sure looks like you're defending the punks' actions. Why else would you be looking for a reason to blame the victim?

Most times, kids are bullied for no other reason than they're easy targets.

It doesn't matter why, there is no valid reason for bullying!

No, I'm not defending the punks, and I said so in my original post. I take great offence that you wouldn't believe me when I said so. But I doubt this all started over what the girl was wearing. SOMETHING must have set it in motion. I disagree with your contention that kids are bullied for no reason. People rarely do ANYTHING without a reason. I'm not looking for a reason to blame the victim, but I seriously doubt that she was bullied for what she wore.

I never said there was. I was just curious why she was a target. Every story has two sides to it. I'd like to hear the other. I'd like to hear why that lunatic cut that dude's head off on the bus. That doesn't mean I'm defending that action.

I agree with Lily. Some kids are just plain evil and the only excuse they need to torment someone is that their victim is too weak to fight back.

I had similar problems in school when I was the smallest kid in class and had red hair and glasses and my mom dressed me funny.

Then I became the kid with funny clothes, red hair, glasses, a shade bigger and with a really sh*tty attitude and people learned to leave me alone or they learned to eat their food with a straw. I gave them no middle ground.

I agree with Axeman here.

I used to make fun of some kids but I would never punch someone for that. There must be something behind that. Since condoms were used maybe it's just teenager jealousy. You know when one teenage kisses another girl's 'boyfriend'.

Don't get me wrong. I'm just thinking here. I've not followed that case. Anyway this is going (and has gone) too far.

You clearly have no 'intimate knowledge' of being bullied. Aren't you the lucky one! That being the case you have based your opinion on nothing more than supposition. Are you perhaps a school teacher???

Following is a post that I made in another thread. Before you read it, try to picture the bully and the victim.
I was about 31/2 ft tall and weighed in at about 60 lb tops!( By the time I was 14 years old I had 'sprouted' to 4'2"!) Cathy was close to 5 ft tall and for sure easily doubled my weight. For someone my size to 'cause trouble' for someone her size is nothing less than a deathwish! I will agree with you on the point that SOMETHING must have set it in motion. That something being the emotional/mental inadequecy of the bully!

My POV comes from personal experience at a very young age. At the time, I was in gr. 2. Cathy henderson was in gr 4. I was very small for my age. Cathy was very large for her age. To this day I have never figured out why, but she took great pleasure in 'beating the shit out of me'! I told my teacher about it on several occasions. My teachers response was "stay away from her". Cathy wouldn't let this happen. Every recess was a repeat performance. One day I had enough! Next recess I hid behind a door which I could see when she would be coming down the hallway. I saw her. I also saw that she was being followed about 10 ft behind by my teacher. The one I had complained to on numerous occassions!
I made the decision! I crouched down and as soon as Cathy passed by, I bolted out, slid down on the floor, knocked her legs out from under, and I was on her, slamming her head into the tile floor screaming " LEAVE ME ALONE, LEAVE ME ALONE..." !
The ironic twist to this was that the teacher whom I had gone to for help ended up having to protect the bully from me! My message got thru 'loud and clear'. Cathy stayed well away from me after that!

Like I said 'pysical injuries heal. Emotional injuries rarely ever do'!

This incident happened in 1963, but I remember it as though it was yesterday!

Yogi, you have my deepest sympathies. Truly, you do.

My worst years were 1978-1980 when my parents moved to Sacramento from Massachussetts. In Massachussetts I was just another red haired kid and no one cared and I got along fine. In California I was an instant geek because I spoke with a New England accent, I dressed conservatively, and I had short hair. This was when kids in California had long feathered hair, they dressed like bums, and drug use was fairly rampant.

I'd been raised to trust the teachers and on Cape Cod that was pretty easy to do. In California the teachers were beyond useless and it was only when I took matters into my own hands did I get any peace.

Those 2+ years or so were probably the most influential years of my life and here I am close to thirty years later and I have zero tolerance for bullies of any stripe.

And you're right that someone who has never experienced being bullied is not going to comprehend the cold fear that goes through you when you KNOW you have to face someone and get your butt kicked. Or sometime even get yourself beaten by a gang.

In my own case I went from being bullied to being the person the bullies feared. I fought back and didn't stop fighting. When I saw someone else being bullied in my junior and senior years of high school it became my custom to put my arm around the victim and tell the bullies that they were to leave my friend alone. At the time I got to this there was literally no one and no number of bullies willing to take me on because I'd made a reputation as a single-minded psycho when it came to payback.

Consequently, I had peace and in honestly spoiling for a fight all the time I also managed to wage peace at my school for the benefit of other kids.

I do trust life is better for you?

Thanks Bart. That day was an epiphany of sorts. I realized that I didn't have to 'take shit' from anyone. My size became an advantage. No one expected the reaction they got after that day! I was also 'taught and permitted to take' self defense tactics. I was cautioned never to be the agressor. I listened and learned. I have never been one to stand idley by and watch anyone else bully or beat on another. Once I have the other persons 'complete and undivided attention' it is then their turn to 'listen and learn!

I'm not calling you an illiterate idiot with comprehension issues.

I didn't say kids were bullied for no reason. I said sometimes they're bullied for no other reason than they're easy targets.

I'll take great offense if you think I called you an illiterate idiot with comprehension issues, because didn't I say I'm not calling you that at the beginning of this post?

Wow. I didn't think anything I said was that controversial. I was just curious why SHE was the victim.

No. I've been bullied. Who hasn't? And I'm not a school teacher.

And I NEVER meant to belittle any of your misery. I have a story equally as sad and I'm sure everyone does. I just asked the simple question "why this victim"? It was more idle curiosity than any political statement. I'm really not sure why I'm under fire here...I was just curious to hear the others' story.

I could say because of her clothes, but you refused to believe that.

Why would you think we "haven't got the whole story"? Why are you wondering what she did - if anything - to deserve this? Do you think there's any justification?

No, I think there is NO justificiation. But I'd still like to know why.

I don't want to respond in his name but I'm thinking the same way.
There must be something we don't know here. You don't hit someone for no reason.
OK, maybe it was because everyone else told the other girl to do it but.. i think it's a good question to ask: "WHY?"

That's all I was asking. Like I said, it's not a defence, but a curiosity. I'd like to hear what the other side has to say. Is that something I should have to defend...wanting to hear both sides of a story before I draw conclusions?

From my experience, something *maybe* similar happened to me.
15 people in skidoos went into a party I made to *beat* me. I was gonna go outside but friends of mine did the *job*. After that, I had a chat with *leader* and everyone who wanted to go in the party were invited (it was a 2$ fee.. hihi).
